I need A decent read....but light-hearted? Dare I say funny?

Read loads of great books recently but I want one that is going to lighten my heart rather than weigh me down emotionally.
No chick lit or the like though please!

Depending on your sense of humour, the Ross O'Carroll Kelly series of books are fab! There are about 15 of them charting Ross's life over the last 15 years or so in south Dublin. Very Irish humour and hilarious if you are familiar with the private school, rugby playing, parochial stereotypes!

Alan Bennett, The Uncommon Reader.
HM The Queen takes up novel reading. It's hilarious, well-written, short and worth reading more than once.

I love David Sedaris's books (heard him on the radio and didn't find him as easy to listen to as I'd hoped)

Christopher Brookmyre books or Carl Hiassen. Both similar genre in that they are crime based but very funny, Hiassen is American so most are set in Florida

Anything by Jon Ronson and I heartily agree about David Sedaris. I'm only a bit through it, but the "100 Year old Man who climbed out of the window and disappeared" is good.

Completely agree about David Sedaris. Have read four of his books now and loved all of them. I think my favourite would be Me Talk Pretty One Day.

Alan Bennett - very funny. You might also like another of his, Smut. Dark, funny and quite mischievous.

Bill Bryson perhaps? His humour appeals to me. Maybe try A Walk in the Woods about his attempt to walk the Appalachian Trail.

Also forgot to mention Janet Evanovich - One for the Money is the first in her light hearted and often very funny crime series about Stephanie Plum who is a Bounty Hunter tacking down criminals in New Jersey.

David Sedaris is GOD. His books are an absolute joy. I loved The Uncommon Reader by Alan Bennett and I've just finished Man at the helm by Nina Stibbe which was wonderful. Although it made me sad at times, it was hilarious. Bittersweet would be the word for it I think.

I know she is a bit marmite but Miranda Harts autobiography "Is it just me?" is really funny. I have it on my phone and use it to while away time when Im stuck in waiting rooms etc.
