Kindle battery woes

Sorry for slightly dull thread.

I've had my Kindle Paperwhite for about two years. When I first had it, the battery would last for several days. Now it runs out after a day, which is a pain as I have to constantly recharge.

Anyone else had this problem, and is there a way of solving it?

Is the wireless off?

Have you done the online support?
When I've had issues Amazon were really helpful, they'll ring you back.

My wireless is on all the time, I read every day, and only have to charge about once a week.

Have you tried lowering the backlight to its lowest setting?

Mine has always lasted weeks, not days. I wonder if yours was faulty to start with.

Agree mine is a year old and the battery lasts for weeks still. The wifi does drain it faster but still weeks

Like Cote, I keep the wireless on all the time - hadn't occurred to me to turn it off, but I get the Guardian delivered to it every day so it's handy to have it on for that.

Hadn't thought about trying to lower the lighting, though it seems to adjust automatically anyway.

Maybe I'll give the online support a go - thanks for that suggestion, East.

Mine is Kindle Paperwhite, too, and it doesn't automatically adjust the light. You just don't notice that it is lit when you are outside or in a well-lit room. It uses up the battery, though.

I have a really old Kindle, but it definitely eats up the battery if I leave Wifi on!

It should last for weeks - get in touch with support, they are usually really good with anything kindle related as they know the device is what sells the books, iykwim.

Mine last weeks, wifi always on, and the back light quite low.
Used most days.

Sometimes if my battery seems to not be lasting as long as it should it is due to it being "stuck" indexing a book, I just do a search of my kindle with a random term, such as "xxyydhjdh", something that will not be in a book, and it tells me which book is not indexed. Usually only happens if I have downloaded several books at one time though.

That's interesting, Bears. I'd never heard of that "indexing" problem.

If I get a new kindle, and have to transfer all my books onto it, I leave it plugged in until it has finished indexing! It can take hours do index the books sometimes.

Also, if I make a note in a book, it does seem to re index that book, as well as the clippings file. So, searching, making notes etc, all uses battery.

If it does get stuck indexing a book, sometimes you can click on the title in the list you get, that says what books are not yet indexed, and force it to index, or you have to delete and re download.
