(17 Posts)Is anyone else reading these books?
I need someone to dissect with!
I'm reading thematthe moment. Just about 3/4 of the way through 'Not Dead Enough'. I've enjoyed themmorethanIthought
How are you finding them?
Sorry space bar sticking and didn't check it first!
I'm about to get started on Dead Mans Grip! Really enjoying them and find that I can't put them down!
This whole Sandy sub plot is driving me insane though! What on earth is going on there?
I've just had a look at which number book you're on now - you're a bit ahead of me in the series. I can't imagine where the Sandy sub plot will end up going but I guess it gives the series some originality.
I read the first one - umm- blokes on a stag night? Was totally gripped. Thought it was great
I then started the next in the series and was massively put off by the main characters habit of sexually assessing EVERY female in the book. Honestly, once you notice it, it's everywhere. And also some line about massaging his pet dogs tits.
It was just .... No. It put me off. Shame really as enjoyed the first
I read the first one - was looking for something along the lines of Lisa Gardner/Karen Rose but friend recommended. Was ok and a bit different but not gripping enough for me so moved on to Mary Burton. May go back again once I have read the Mary Burton series although not sure now after the pet dog tits????
Honestly Sanity, the dog line is in chapter one and a total WTF moment .... Something along the lines of ' he relaxed with his pint and stretched out his foot and rubbed it along the dog's tits ' ... As opposed to ' he rubbed his foot affectionately on the dog's stomach ..'
Just weird
That is a weird line. I remember reading it twice thinking I had misread it. i am generally enjoying the series though.
Haha! I mistakenly started a few books in so haven't seen the dogs tits! That's seriously unnecessary though!
When you say main character sexually as seeing every female? Do you mean Roy grace? I've noticed they constantly have to re describe a character every time they come back (like the Russian mortician), not just for every book, for even after a few chapters of her not appearing!
I do find the dialogue between him and his girlfriend unbearable as well, so cringe!
I've read a few but his over description got on my nerves. I don't need half a chapter to describe a Brighton street.
Ive read them all but I hate the dialogue between him and his GF. Way too lovey dovey.
They were cheap on the kindle a few weeks ago.
I just noticed that every single woman he comes across HAS to be described in great detail. He looks them up and down and we seem to need a long winded description about their clothes/ breasts/ rate of attractiveness etc
It just annoyed me and I couldn't read any further
I liked the first few but if all got seriously repetitive. Not the actual main plot but dialogue between him and gf, between him and sidekick, all the Sandy stuff, all the endless rehashing of the Sandy stuff.
I wrote a review saying this years ago on Amazon and either Peter James or someone pretending to be him replied and was quite rude to me.
Just finished want you dead. i have enjoyed the earlier dead novels, but the last couple are really tedious. The Sandy thing is never resolved, Clio is such a saint and i find that annoying. The plots are really far fetched too. I prefer Mark Billingham books, i do seem attracted to thrillers, crime books! I think these serial books all start well, then the authors run out of ideas. They get published though..!
I find Peter James' earlier books, not the Roy Grace series, much better. The Truth, Denial, Possession and Alchemist are all great.
Love Peter James and the Roy Grace series. Agree, it can be a little repetitive but the books are just like a comfort blanket and I just fly through them.
However, my favourite book is Alchemist .
