I just finished this after seeing it recommended on here loads.

I was absolutely loving it until they leave the mission, but after that I lost interest, does anyone else feel like the last section is too long and could've been half the length?

And I was disappointed no chapter was told from the fathers perspective, no matter how crazy, violent, misguided he clearly was I felt like he should've had a voice too. I kept going to the end expecting that, or another chapter from Ruth May, after the discussions with the Congolese about how people's souls are still with them after they die.

And how/why does Adah get completely cured?

I think that I understand what you are saying - I've read it twice. However, on the second reading, I got a different viewpoint, which made the second half more powerful - the way in which BK is lambasting the US for its' involvement in the Congo. I didn't get that bit at all the first time around. I think that this is really what she wanted to write about and that the characters are the vehicle. Clearly it's an attempt to express something very important to her.
