My mum is in her late 60s and has always wanted to write. Now she's done it and she is actually really good. She's written three (3!!) novels and has just put one on Kindle - her first tentative venture into showing her work to the general public.

I genuinely think it's a good book - also it is set at Christmas time so is rather seasonal - it's only a quid on Amazon (it was supposed to be 99p but I think she got the pricing a bt wrong and it came out at £1.05) - and it would make her SO happy if some people would read it and like it.

It's called "Christmas at Great Madden" by Catherine J. Bowness.

How about the Lollipop Shoes by Joanne Harris? Obviously depends if you like her writing, but it's set in the run up to Christmas and is a sequel to Chocolat. Very gentle reading

I've just started Winter's Tale by Mark Helprin. Rather a large tome, but has rave reviews (and so far I'm LOVING it!).

Ordered a book called Coming Home for Christmas by Julia Williams, pretty much in the chick- lit camp but looks very warm and cosy!
