can anyone recommend a good gardening book for beginners? Want to get one for dh for his birthday. He's taken an interest in our garden since we got a house with our own garden but has very little knowledge on it but wants to learn. I have no idea on this subject. Went into waterstones to get him one and came away empty handed as I just didn't know what to get him. I was bamboozled by them all.

Any suggestions???

Alan Titchmarsh wrote a book for beginners about 10 years ago - here when he was still a gardener and not a chat show host/novelist/whatever else :o.

Failing that, maybe try Monty Don (I prefer him) or Carol Klein (also good).

RHS do good books aswell, usually DK publishers.
