Possible spoilers: What did you think of Human Remains by Elizabeth Haynes?

I really enjoyed her debut, Into the Darkest Corner, but didn't think much of Revenge of the Tide. So I approached HR with caution, but I thought it was a return to form. Found both Annabel and Colin interesting, well-rounded and believable. And I really bought into the format, especially the victims briefly telling the story of their deaths. The whole theme of loneliness and aloneness was very poignant.

The only reservation I have was the comparatively "easy" resolution and the climax that felt rushed and insufficiently tense.

Funnily enough the whole idea of a sociopath simply talking to his victims and them then killing themselves put me in mind of the pilot episode of Gatiss/Moffat's Sherlock, as that's what their killer says he does. But this book takes that idea and develops it in a different (more chilling) way. I'll be wary of strangers tapping me on the arm in future .

I could have written your post entirely! Enjoyed Into the Darkest Corner, wasn't fussed about Revenge of the Tide but really glad that I got Human Remains. In fact, I think it's probably the best of the three.

I loved revenge of the tide more than darkest corner tbh. Human remains was a great read too.

Loved in to the darkest corner.. Very disappointed with human remains so much so that I'm not keen to read this author again.
