Just finished all of the current Game of Thrones books; how amazing and immersion they were! I haven't read anything else whilst I've been reading them so as not to taint my brain haha. I'm going to miss them Sad

Hi Divergent Smile
Bring on the wow, still no sign of it coming any time soon though. I missed them so much I started reading from the begginging again Grin I picked up loads more second time round.
I might make a start on the wheel of time now, I have the first book stored away somewhere.

I am also eagerly awaiting WoW.

Have you read the Dunk & Egg stories too? There are also a couple of extra stories centered around the Targaryens too.

Dunk and Egg are brilliant, good suggestion Pourquoi, I still only have read the hedge night, need to get my arse in gear and order the others, the world of ice and fire coms out soon too, that should be a good read.

Yes I got them from amazon. They're short stories within a compilation of other fantasy stories. Off the top of my head one of them is called "Warriors". A google search of dunk and egg should bring them up.

Poor Kevan, I think he was a decent bloke. Just caught up in the game of thrones because of his brother.
Jon, our lovely Jon, he can't be dead And most probably isn't, I doubt he will die yet.
Anyone read the wow sample chapters ?

iamdivergent · 24/09/2014 20:18

I read the theon one at the back of my copy of adwd and the arya one online (she's called something else again but it is her)

I've read the sample chapters. I'm sure they only released the Arya one because the episode of GoT that aired that week would have been a massive spoiler for that chapter. I was fuming when I saw it, although by the end of the series so many non-canon things had happened I no longer cared Grin. I now consider the show and the books to be entirely separate.

The Mercy chapter ? I haven't read it yet, what was the spoiler then ? I missed it completely.

This particular character's death, and Arya's speech in this scene: is pretty much what's in the Mercy chapter, word for word.

Thanks Pourqoui Smile I am saving the sample chapters for now, TWOW can't be that long, can it ? Hmm

You're making me want to start over again! It's been a couple of years since I read them and I'm too contaminated by the TV series to remember them properly. But so much to read and so little time! Dare I read them again??

I found he added so much new stuff in the last two books, I can't believe he can possibly wrap it all up.

Does anyone else think Arya's wolf still has a role to play? IIRC she wasn't killed, just released in the first book.

Report
iamdivergent · 30/09/2014 21:01

Yes I reckon so; she is mentioned as Arya has wolf dreams

Hello! I've just finished reading all five books (seven really, because of the two volume stuff with 3 and 5). Haven't seen the TV series but am going to ask for the boxed set for Christmas. Smile

My daughter has read the lot, more than once, and she has read that GoT was fairly close to the book in series 1, less so later on. I don't care. I'm just looking forward to living it all again in another medium!

I've discovered that George RR Martin has been releasing/reading chapters from The Winds Of Winter left, right and centre! This is a summary of all of them as of March 2014. OBVIOUSLY, DON'T READ IF YOU DON'T WANT ANY SPOILERS!

Having said that, although there are some nice little nuggets in there I don't think there was anything totally left field, not like the massive surprises we've all endured along the way!

Re direwolves: my theory is that all the Stark children are to some extent wargs and that Sansa is having a particularly hard time because Lady was killed and so not around to protect Sansa. There's been mention of a huge wolf roaming around the riverlands - I believe that's Nymeria. The bond between Jon and Ghost has always been shown as very, very close and taking that along with the prologue to ADWD I have a theory about something that might be revealed at some point. Will say no more!

I also have a hunch (nothing more) that Jon Snow was the child of Lyanna Stark and Prince Rhaegar. That would make sense of all the hints that have been dropped about that liaison along the way.
