(17 Posts)Ive been pottering around playing mindless games on my phone while BFing. Please save my brain and suggest a great book I can get on my kindle.
I've loved recently:
Life after life
Song of Achilles
The Cormoran strike books
The art of fielding
Americanah
The Rosie project
Where'd you go Bernadette
Burial Rites
Gone girl
I've just read We're All Completely Beside Ourselves whilst breastfeeding. Interesting but not too taxing to read in bits and pieces.
The Lemon Grove
The Simon Serrailler crime novels by Susan Hill
Was also going to say burial rites by Hannah Kent.
If you liked Americanah, have you read half of a yellow sun?
These could fit the bill
Christie Watson - tiny sunbirds far away
AD miller - snow drops
Jeffrey Eugenides - Middlesex
Mohsin hamid - moth smoke
Donna tartt - the goldfinch
Jonathan Safran foer - extremely loud and incredibly close
Gavin extence - the universe versus alex woods
Not a new one but I recently read The Book Thief and it is one of my all time faves. The most beautifully written, well thought out clever snapshot of one of the most terrible periods in our recent history - but please don't let that put you off. If I'd known what it was about before I read it, I may have given it a miss - so glad I didn't.
Also - We Were Liars - easy quick and poignant read
Her Giant Octopus Moment - another quick read - very honest and reminds that what we see is not what may be - we are all individuals in our own universes which sit in our communal universe - and we acto accordingly.

I also loved the book thief, and the historian - another book that I didn't expect to enjoy but I found it absolutely compulsive reading
I loved the Historian. I read The Invention of Wings by Sue Monk Kidd earlier this year which is a cracking read.
The Book Thief
The Goldfinch
Wolf Hall and then Bring up the Bodies
NW (Zadie Smith)
If you want something a bit lighter The 100 Year Old Who Climbed Out Of A a Window
The Robber Bride (Margaret Atwood) and Wolf Hall, if you feel like long books.
Thirst (Kerry Hudson) if you fancy a different kind of love story.
The Goldfinch
The Nineteenth Wife

I finished Daughter by Jane Shemilt yesterday and I cannot shake the images it conjured from my head. A brilliantly written & extremely soul wrenching story.
Perfect by Rachel Fry was really good, I loved it and devoured it in just over a day.
The invention of wings
