Start using Mumsnet PremiumCross and Burn-new Val Mcdermid-any good?
(6 Posts)This arrived on my Kindle after I pre-ordered it months ago but after reading the synopsis and feeling let down by my favourite authors lately (Elizabeth George, Lee Child and Patricia Cornwell all seem to have run out of ideas for their main characters and their last books have been either weird or boring) so not overly excited about starting it-any one read it and would recommend?

Agree about Patricia Cornwell-haven't read her last two or three-I've got half a Grisham to finish then I'll be starting it. Hope you enjoy it.

Hmm - interesting to see this thread. I was definitely underwhelmed by the last Tony Hill McDermid (The Retribution?) - it took me ages to finish it, and I just found that I'm tired of all Tony and Carol's ishoos! They seem to be going round and round in circles.
And used to love Elizabeth George but she seems to have hit a similar wall with Lynley: picked the latest up from a charity shop yesterday so we'll see how that goes. Some series just need knocking on the head. For example, Karin Slaughter knew when to stop and reboot her series and I think that's worked - focusing more on Will Trent now.
Serial killer plot (because, of course, there is one): not so great, figured out who did it fairly early on. The Tony and Carol stuff, on the other hand, I really liked. If you are a fan of the Tony/Carol dynamic, definitely worth it, I'd say.
