Sorry, had to vent -
according to Amazon, this book had excellent reviews, amongst them -

"I couldn't put it down! An intricate, tightly plotted story, engagingly told." Helen Castor, author of She-Wolves, Sunday Times Books of the Year

"A well-written, intriguing, cleverly constructed and compelling read. The twist was excellent and I didn't see it coming." The Literary Consultancy

Of 450+ reviews on Amazon, 247 of them are 5*
I have just finished the book and thought it was utter, utter, drivel. Full of basic grammatical errors, flaky characters, stereotypes. It read as if it has been written by a 6th-former with little or no understanding of life. The ending is just dire.

So, am I missing something?
Have you read and, if so - what did you think?

I haven't read it - if you got it for kindle you can get a refund and I have done so on some truly terrible books!

I agree entirely. Yet somehow I had forgotten this and bought her second book which again had a promising plot but again failed. The blurb in each case is very well done - but the writing itself is irritating and the plot doesn't live up to its hype on the blurb. Gripping mind you!

I've just finished it after a couple of friends recommended it.

I didn't hate it but I can't say it lived up to expectations following the recommendations.

It passed the time, I did want to know what the big mystery was, several times I thought there was some sort of error with the layout because it didn't make sense and then the end was a disappointment because I was hoping for something more when the secret was revealed.

I won't be reading it again.

Thank you for that tip, JumpingJackSprat, I had no idea such a thing was possible Grin
