NobodyPutsTomArcherInTheCorner Thu 01-Aug-13 10:14:35

Sorry to be dense but is there any way of browsing the Kindle sale on our Kindles? I can't for the life of me see whereconfused

Arcticwaffle Thu 01-Aug-13 10:21:50

Oh yes, thanks for the link, this is a really good sale! Just in time for summer holiday reading preparation.

I just got the Lionel Shriver, Alexandria Quartet, Stepford Wives, Slaughterhouse 5, and 8 books for the 13 and 11 yo dds - teen books are often quite expensive on Kindle so that's been very useful.

Dunlurking Thu 01-Aug-13 10:39:16

I agree with you Arcticwaffle that this sale looks useful for stocking up on teen books. I've just finished The Secret Hen House Theatre before passing onto dd. Perfect for early teens. It is gripping, funny and sad in parts and I read until 1 in the morning 2 nights running.

southeastsweller - you are the opposite of me! I bought the paperback, got a cheap second hand copy because I felt I would struggle to read it on Kindle, but I bought the Kindle copy at 99p when I saw it this week, so that I can read it out and about if I don't have my paperback with me.... odd? yes, probably!

Ooh, thanks for this. I definitely want the Lionel Shriver and The White Queen.

Off to browse for more!

Cherrypi Sat 03-Aug-13 10:04:36

Are new ones being added to this one? There doesn't seem to be an option to click and see new additions like last time.

weebarra Sat 03-Aug-13 10:37:31

Thanks for that - imminent DC3 and hospital stay so will need kindle fully loaded!

IloveJudgeJudy Sat 03-Aug-13 15:23:35

Thank you all for your pointers towards certain books. I couldn't find them myself on the sale pages.

UseHerName Sat 03-Aug-13 15:30:40

ooh maggie gee, rosemary's baby, stepford wives and devil wears prada 1&2 already

also the hilary mantel one-bringing up the dead/bodies?might return it tho as im not sure about it grin

NadiaWadia Thu 08-Aug-13 13:32:45

minsmum, did you get an e-mail from Amazon about this? Because I didn't get one, even though I'm signed up to Deal of the Day.

Thanks, anyway, if not for you I wouldn't have known. Although now the Lionel Shriver one seems to be gone sad

minsmum Thu 08-Aug-13 13:45:53

No Nadia I didn't but I always check the discussion forum and it was posted on there that it had started. So I just thought people on here would want to know

NadiaWadia Thu 08-Aug-13 15:10:46

Oh right, do you mean the discussion forum on Amazon?

You would think they would want to publicize it by sending out e-mails, though, I'm sure they used to, can remember getting one about January sale etc.

UseHerName Fri 09-Aug-13 09:10:40

i didn't get an email either and the link on their landing page isn't terribly evident

it was mumsnet pointed me in the direction of the sale

minsmum Sat 10-Aug-13 16:06:45

Yes it was on the Kindle discussion forum. I always like to have a look because the people on it are very quick to point out any price drops etc.

hackmum Sat 10-Aug-13 20:58:15

Thanks for the tip. Bought the Lionel Shriver and have just finished it.

"Mind you, I was amazed at the poor quality of the Kindle version of another of Mantel's books, Beyond Black, which was crammed with scanning errors. It was clear that the e-version hadn't been proofread. I got my money back."

I've had this problem too, with a few books. It was particularly noticeable in that Julian Barnes one that won the Booker, with the letters rn appearing as m, or vice versa, and the letter l being mixed up with 1.

hackmum Sat 10-Aug-13 21:03:23

Just been through again - the books are in an entirely random order, aren't they? Bought a biography of Nancy Mitford on the basis that for 99p, you can't go wrong.

If anyone's looking for a recommendation, one of the books on there is Spies by Michael Frayn, which is a wonderful read. One of my favourites from the past 10 years.

antimatter Sat 10-Aug-13 21:17:04

I got that link via email
are you subscribed to daily email for kindle offers?

minsmum Sun 11-Aug-13 00:10:40

Yes and the Amazon deals as well. I got a free voucher to buy a book for a pound. Well a couple but I didn't want one of the deals.

Hackmum I was looking at Spies but couldn't make up my mind thank you for making it up for me

CoteDAzur Sun 11-Aug-13 10:20:45

hackmum - I just bought Spies at the Kindle sale. Thank you for the recommendation smile

Levantine Sun 11-Aug-13 10:32:14

I can't fine the lionel shrivel one anywhere. Do you mean the one about her big brother?

ribenainmyeye Sun 11-Aug-13 13:13:50

big brother is there, just not included in the sale anymore which is a shame.

im going to buy spies by michael frayn but am a bit cautious! the bad reviews say its pretentious and dull and the 5 star review i tried to read contained 'oneself' so many times i was even more inclined to think this book may be pretentious and dull! i really like the blurb for it though so will give it a go! grin

schoolchauffeur Sun 11-Aug-13 14:35:17

ribeye, I loved Spies and I passed it on to three or four other people who all enjoyed it too.

antimatter Sun 11-Aug-13 15:01:06

Levantine - yes it was that book for 99p, they finished that promotion I think

Levantine Sun 11-Aug-13 19:42:20

sad thanks

ribenainmyeye Sun 11-Aug-13 20:49:58

Thanks schoolchauffeur I'm looking forward to it now. Love my nickname of ribeye by the way grin
