Please don't flame me, but am after some easy reading! Can anyone recommend any well-written, not too cringey chick lit (or even mum lit)?
Or anything easy going and funny (eg really loved The Common Reader)?

I have a heavy going job and love a bit of light hearted reading ( thank god for kindles where noone can see what tripe I'm sometimes reading).

I just finished Fern Britton- The Holiday Home. Also recently enjoyed Amy Bratt can't recall exact title but something about the antenatal group.

I'm watching this thread for suggestions for my next read! smile

I forgot to mention one I read a couple of weeks ago, which I thought was very good - Pear Shaped by Stella Newman.

Yes to Catherine Alliott. Also have enjoyed a couple of Adele Parkes and Carole Matthews. Oh and another-for the life of me I can't remember her name but she was a writer/producer on 'spaced' and married to ricky gervais

Lisa jewell books are always a good read

Erics James books are excellent with complex plots and some good twists whilst generally being happy easy reading

if you want a good weepy that's beautifully written try Never Change by Elizabeth Berg

the horsey ones by fiona walker are like the best of jilly cooper without the snobby/racist/dubious attitudes to body fat bits
Jane Fallon is the one that viannefox is talking about
Anna Maxted wrote a brilliant book about anorexia called running in heels
cause celebre (by helen fielding aka the bridget jones one) is very good as well

DStone Tue 02-Jul-13 18:39:14

Jojo Moyes - brilliant! And quite a few to choose from...

I really can't see Anne Tyler or Penelope Lively as chick lit. Great authors though.
