Ages. At least a year

They're well worth re-reading though, loads to pick up that's missed in a first read.

There's the Dunk and Egg books too though...

Ages, ages, ages. At least a year or two, and then there'll be another 3-4 years before the last one - if that is the last one, I wouldn't be surprised if it ended up as at least 8 books!

I was going to start a thread like this the other day. Can we have a massive theory debate?

Is Stannis dead or alive?

Is Jon dead? (No way)

Are Jaime and Cersei actually Targaryans? If not, who are the "three heads" that will ride the dragons?

Ohhhhh I love a good theory debate.

Jon is alive - ish. He will not die for good but may warg in to Ghost for a while.

Stannis - alive. He will hopefully kill the Boltons and reclaim Winterfell for the Starks.

Dany, Jon and Tyrion are the 3 heads. They were all born after their mothers died in childbirth, and their have been so many hints towards Tyrion being a targ for it not to be true. Unless it is a GRRM red herring, which I really hope its not.

What hints about Tyrion being a Targ? I know Aegon fancied his mum but he's much like a non-evil version of Tywin - isn't that one of the reasons Tywin hated him so much because he could see so much of himself in Tyrion?

Ok, I may have embellished the loads of hints Grin I am going on the comments Aerys supposedly made to Tywin on his wedding night about him already sleeping with Joanna.
There have also been comments from Twyin to Tyrion in the series about him not being able to disprove that he is his son. Which fuelled my crack pot theory.

Is a most contentious theory that one. Has seen many a heated debate.

What of his marriage to Tysha? There's no reference to it being ended / annulled, just tyrion saying that 'the septons' said it was as if it had never happened. But, only the high septon can dissolve a marrige and it has to be at the request of one of the married parties. In person. Makes the Sansa situation very interesting, of course.

Grin Yes I have lurked on the forum you linked to up thread and seen the heated debates.

Oooooh yes interesting point. I think we will see more of Tysha in the next 2 books, hopefully not in a loving teary reunion way.

Some people (as I'm sure you know) like to think she's the sailors wife in Bravos. TBH I don't like that theory but, who knows.

I'm worried he'll die before finishing the books. He's quite old isn't he?

Is the Sailors Wife one of the famous courtesans?

I don't get the Tyrion is Aerys son argument. The Jaime/Cersei theory makes more sense as I read it that Aerys insisted on his lords' right on Tywin and Joanna's wedding night. Thus it's Dany, Jon and Jaime as the three heads. I get an impression he is working towards Jaime being one of the big heroes.

Jon's definitely alive, but hopefully whatever has happened means that he's out of the Night's Watch and becoming some sort of Mance Rayder mark II, and marry's Val to lead the wildlings against the White Walkers. There's some theory, isn't there, that he is that Azhor Ahai that Melisandra keeps banging on about, "born of smoke and salt" - his blood was smoking, and one of the men stabbing him was crying (salt)

He is cracking on a bit, yeah. Sad

The sailors wife is the prostitute in the port - kind to Arya. Always marries her punters before doing the deed. She's who the Nights Watch singer (Derron or something?) is with when Sam finds him. Has a golden haired daughter called Lanna.

PollyPlummer · 20/06/2013 21:39

Lanna - Lannister ? Like Barra was for Baratheon. Too crackpot ?

Thurlow you're right, it does make more sense for Cersei and Jaime to be targs, but I want Tyrion to be one. He could ride in to battle on a dragon and save the day.

Thurlow · 20/06/2013 21:56

I was all fired up on Jaime/Cersei simply because of the lords' right, wedding night thing... but most of my theory rested on the scene earlier in the book where Roose Bolton tells Theon how he fathered Ramsay. There were plenty of ways for Martin to make sure we knew how much of a bastard Bolton is, so I found it really interesting that he chose to make sure we knew all about the lords' right issue. And when I think about it, Bolton rapes Ramsay's mother after the wedding. So maybe that's a point as well.

Smile I love how there are so many theories behind the story. I am a bit obsessed and think about them all the time. ASOIAF has officially taken over my life.
I watch the channel 4 news just so I can say - you know nothing Jon Snow. Grin

My theory is: the end of the story will be told on TV before the final book(s) come out. There's no way the TV show won't catch up with the books unless he totally changes his way of writing, and if they don't keep making a season a year I don't think they can keep going with the TV (everyone's contracts with end, people will do other things, the team will be split up, everyone will age too much, etc.) Apparently, he's told the TV guys the rough outline of the end of the story in case he does die before it's finished. I think they're idiots if they didn't allow the possibility of getting ahead of the books when sorting out the rights, as this was obviously going to happen.

It would be a bit rubbish to see it on telly first, but not as rubbish as the adaptation finishing half-way through ...

Report
PollyPlummer · 28/06/2013 19:07

Shock if that did happen iis I would have to stop watching the series till GRRM caught up.
I don't think TWOW will be too long, maybe 2015. It would be nice to have a vague idea of how far he is, but GRRM is nobodies bitch - it is known.

I know, it would be a bit crazy and v annoying for book readers. They may be alright for the next one - still 3 part 2, 4 and 5 to go with the telly, so if he's done in 3 years time it'll be fine. But then they'll need the next one in 4 years - is that really going to happen?!
