Can anyone recommend a book about Black Civil Rights in America?

I am coming to the end of reading The Help by Kathryn Stockett which I have very much enjoyed and I wanted to look up some factual stuff to read. Any ideas please?

Pre-cursor to civil rights but I loved Booker T Washington's 'Up from Slavery' and follow it up WEB Du Bois. I can't recall what his book was called but he essentially represents the opposite view if Washibgton, but Washington's autobiography is fascinating.
