Really excited about the TV adaption of Philippa Gregory's The White Queen after just seeing the trailer! But it said based on her novels, plural. Does anyone know which other ones will be involved? I'm guessing The Kingmakers Daughter?

The red queen. They are the three so far published as part the cousins at war series. She's doing another one but not sure who its about

There's the Lady of the Rivers too. I must get someone to record that for me so I can watch it when we're next home!

Oh yes - forgot about that one. I really tried to read it but gave up

Not sure, it just says coming soon on the trailer. Just really hope it's not a disappointment. Jacquetta looks like I imagined though!

Yes, The Other Boleyn Girl was so boring.

I think it's The Red Queen, The White Queen and the Lady of the Rivers.

I'm ridiculously excited but then I wrote an MA on Edward IV and am a bit of a Wars of the Roses geek Blush

I'm excited too but then I am a archaeologist/historian Smile the next book is the white princess I think, released in August and is based on Elizabeth of York.
Does anyone know when this is on, I have a newborn and 2 other children so keeping missing the trailers end!

Thurlow - just being nosey you don't have to tell,Smile but what did you write your MA diss on?

The Role of the House of York in the Late 15th Century Book Trade. Exciting, huh? Grin

Oh, and no exact dates yet, but I think it will be in about 2-3 weeks as it'll be a Sunday night show and Case Histories is on for the next week or two, I imagine it will follow that.

Thanks, actually does sound interesting what were your conclusions? It's not usually my area but I'm researching the (physical aspects not political) death of Anne Neville at the moment for a possible article.

You and I could become firm friends Grin I have a bit of a 'thing' for the Earl of Warwick, lord knows why.

The dissertation was about how Edward had to spend money on luxurious illuminated manuscripts to copy the Burgundians and try to increase the prestige of the House of York, yet at the same time they promoted Caxton and the printing press for almost the same reasons. It was all propaganda. Ironically, this was a dissertation for an MA in library studies! I just wrote a lot of about battles and Warwick. Lord knows why they let me submit it...

Is this your specialist subject?

I am seriously and sillily excited about all the tudor stuff on the bbc this summer. I know it's a long way from real academia to sit and watch stuff on the telly, but I do love things that appeal to my more intellectual nature. Loved the programme on Anne Boleyn last night.

I'm also looking forward to this. I've read loads of stuff on the tudors and that kind of timem that I forget what PG books I've read! I don't think I've read The White Queen though, but looking forward to the series

Thurlow- ooohhhh yep the earl of Warwick he always seems to me as very charismatic, and decisive. Alright so he switched sides a bit but at least he did it openly. Grin
It sounds genuinely fascinating.
It's not really my area of expertise but I love the period and with all the Richard III news lots of journals are looking for research and articles, both publishable and for archives.
I've been looking for evidence for the physical illness and decline of Anne Neville, though of course it's the trying to understand the rest and how it fits into context that's more interesting Grin I like her very much at the beginning but by the time Richard is king all the fight seems to have gone out of her, not that you can blame Her of course! Can you imagine her thread on here....

La queen, yep she almost certainly did, but it's looking through all the primary evidence for clues and information especially early symptoms, treatments etc. there's a huge amount of potential sources. My working hypothesis is that it was tb though there are some who disagree. I'm trying to create a whole physical picture without external reference to other factors in her 'decline.'
Am no expert though, I'm primarily a archaeologist Grin it would be easier if I had some bones to look at! Grin

Could be..... A thousand different factors come into play, depression, grief, stress, being in London, being away etc. who knows what she felt or was feeling, no one at the time ever seems to care about that only the effect she had on the men she was associated with. makes it very difficult as her illness is nearly always referred to in the context of how it affected/ developed in relation to her husband. It is fascinating trying to work it out though Smile
