Game of Thrones question - not a spoiler

I'm loving the TV adaptation but haven't read the books. Shall I, or will it spoil my enjoyment of either one? What do you think? I fancy something epic for my kindle...

I downloaded the whole series to date on my kindle, think it was £29.99. I'm reading while enjoying the tv series as well. It's very good, not my usual cup of tea but I'm enjoying.

I love the books so will say go for it, I got in to the books after watching the series, I ploughed through them as soon as I finished one I went on to another, and then started again and re read the first 2 books.
There is so much that happens - so many moments, I wouldn't think it would ruin the series though.

I read the books first- they are even better than the tv programme. Tyrion is even sharper and more sarcastic (my favourite character can you tell? )

I saw series one, then read the books. I actually think the TV series is better - the books are overly long and rather self-indulgent imo, with scenes and description that could have been cut with some disciplined editing. The TV series is forced to condense and 'show rather than tell' which picks up the pace.

If you like books like Robert Jordan's Wheel of Time series I would think you would like Game of Thrones as I found them very similar in terms of pace.

It is true however that you get to see more of the characters from the books (although you get to see them naked on TV, which in many cases is a downright gift). :)

Can I ask the opposite question? I've read the books - well, I haven't finished the fifth one yet - and I want to watch the series. BUT I am a total wimp about seeing violence. And also, it always seems to me that the author really gets off, not only on describing gratuitous violence, but also on hammering home how vile the attitude towards women in that world is. Like - I get it, and all, but could we have one conversation without misogynistic slurs? Just one? In the whole 157,593,849,957 pages?

Anyway, so. My actual question is, will the series be too bloody and awful and vile for me, given that I have got through the books already?

The books are very good and I definitely recommend them.

Tortoise if you have read the books then you will at least know when to close your eyes!
