Yes, it maybe surprising to some of you that I have only recently finished reading The Great Gatsby and what a great read it is. Poor George Wilson is all I have to say

I love it too, read it for an a level text years ago and my god-daughter is doing it for gcse so its been great to re-read some of it to help her, I saw a trailer for the new movie with leonardo di-caprio and thought it looked all wrong like it just didn't capture the true essence of it, will still watch it though!

I read it last year, for the first time. It is great, isn't it francine? :)

Have you seen the older film version with Robert Redford as Gatsby? I haven't seen the trailer for the new one, but when I read the book I saw Robert Redford's interpretation in my mind. Wouldn't mind seeing the new one when it comes out though.

I loved it too! Also enjoyed the film adaptation with Robert Redford, but I'm know I may be in a minority there Grin

If you loved Gatsby do go on and read others of his books. Tender is The Night is one of my all time favourites.

That's so funny mimble. Are you on Goodreads? If you are, we'll have to do a book comparison and see what percentage is the same :o

Tender is the Night is an exquisite read.

In my next life when I'll be able to read 3 paperbacks a week, I will re-read it on a beach in south of France........I think that was where it was set Hmm

It is indeed set on a beach in the South of France, Bacon - but hopefully you won't decide to sink into madness too!!!

Duchess - I am a Goodreads virgin/ignoramus. Where should I go, what should I do...???

I read it for English when I was about 15. I still remember being truly shocked by what happens to Myrtle, I was babysitting at the time and just hadn't seen it coming at all. Great book, I still read it about once a year and wish it was the first time again.

mimble this is our group on Goodreads The Book Vipers which is a good place to come and chat about books (most of us are Mumsnetters, but it is an open group for others to join too). There's such a lot on Goodreads to explore. I like that you can log all the books you've read, and discover more books that you want to read, join groups etc etc and just immerse yourself in books :o

duchess, have just joined you - spent a very productive lunch hour getting totally hysterical adding books on left, right and centre and have just added myself to The Book Vipers.

This is all very exciting.

I'll look out for you over on The Book Vipers, mimble :)

If anyone else wants to join the group, just follow the link to The Book Vipers :)
