I love receiving a book at Christmas haven't had any this year (so farWink) so was hoping to live vicariously through mumsnetters. Have treated myself to the new Elly Griffiths in the kindle sale.

VivaLeBeaver · 25/12/2012 19:36

Ooh, I love Elly griffiths, off to get her new one now.

Db got me the most recent idiot abroad book.

glentherednosedbattleostrich · 25/12/2012 19:36

Amazon voucher for my kindle which I've bought a Karen Rose I haven't read yet (just 'discovered' her) and I'm about to start working my way throught some of my stupidly long wish list.

CharlotteBronteSaurus · 25/12/2012 19:43

a lovely schlocky Philippa Gregory for reading whilst drunk and/or tired (ie most of the time)

Bee321 · 25/12/2012 19:48

Hate to admit it, but I bought 40 shades grey for myself. I don't expect it to be good, but was curious. I noticed that DH noticed that I bought it for myself.

Myliferocks · 25/12/2012 20:05

Cherrypi which Elly Griffiths is in the sale?
I can find number 4 in the Ruth Galloway series, A Room Full Of Bones but I can't find her latest one in the series, A Dying Fall.

whistlestopcafe · 25/12/2012 20:15

The Handmaids tale by Margaret Attwood, the latest Emily Barr novel and The Hunger Games.

Cherrypi · 25/12/2012 20:20

Ooh there's 5! Sorry myliferocks I thought the 4th one was the latest.

OP posts:
Myliferocks · 25/12/2012 20:23

That's alright! Number 5 hasn't been out long so is still a bit pricey!
I was getting my hopes up then as I have an Amazon gift voucher burning a hole in my pocket! Xmas Grin

Bee321 · 25/12/2012 21:21

OK, so while DH and his bro and sis are watching xmas TV (yawn!) I started reading 40 shades on kindle in the corner of room away from all that nonsense, the writing in this book is really bad, I mean really bad, but it is having an effect on me; now I know what they mean by mummy porn. I'll leave them to TV and it is off to bed early for me ;)

Willdoitinaminute · 25/12/2012 21:27

Hairy Bikers Christmas good job I bought their diet book for after Xmas!

Willdoitinaminute · 25/12/2012 21:28

Is that the bargain basement version Bee?

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 25/12/2012 21:37

Neville Shute, 'On The Beach' - have read it several times but dp had forgotten. Happy to read it again though and it is a pretty copy.

Android Karenina - can't wait to read this one!

And a fantastically interesting looking history of the Gothic.

And a novel which I have forgotten at the mo, by somebody I'd never heard of.

juneybean · 26/12/2012 16:34

I got Women, Work and the Art of Savoir Faire by Mireille Guiliano from a MNer

Jitterbug Perfume by Tom Robbins (no idea what this is!)

And Little Miss Naughty worries Mr Worry (joke present from my mum because I adore Little Miss Naughty!)

insancerre · 26/12/2012 16:37

Stephen King Through the Keyhole
I can't wait- but will have to finish what I am reading at the moment, even though it's not very good. I just can't stop reading a book without finishing it.
Unless it is Terry Pratchet- I just can't finish any of his for some reason.

ChoccyJules · 26/12/2012 16:40

Hairy Bikers Diet Book and Miranda (both were on my list)

Plus Mark Kermode 'the good, the bad and the multiplex' and ' the people's manifesto' by a comedian whose name currently escapes me.

So four books - a good haul!

viviennewestwould · 26/12/2012 16:41

I was given Sue Townsend's The Woman Who Stayed In Bed For A Year yesterday morning and have just finished it. Laugh-out-loud, sublimely funny book (and I care not that my head has been stuck in a book for the last 36 hours - I have no kids). I also unwrapped The Unlikely Pilgrimage Of Harold Fry by Rachel Joyce which promises to be a bloody treat, too Smile

DuchessofMalfi · 26/12/2012 16:50

I got Miranda Hart's book Is It Just Me? Read some of it last night, so far so good Xmas Smile, My Animals and Other Family by Clare Balding, and How to Bake by Paul Hollywood.

I really miss the pre-children days when I could just read all day Xmas Smile

GrandPoohBah · 26/12/2012 16:56

None :( but that's because I'm always buying books on my kindle, so DH doesn't know what I have. I did get amazon vouchers I can spend on it though.

Abcinthia · 26/12/2012 17:13

I got The Casual Vacancy by JK Rowling. I started it this morning but so far I'm not sure how I feel about it. It's very bleak and I'm struggling a bit to keep on top of all the characters and their relationships to each other.

WildEyedAndHairy · 26/12/2012 17:20

I got Goodnight Children Everywhere - stories of wartime evacuees told by themselves.

DuchessofMalfi · 26/12/2012 17:28

The Casual Vacancy is very bleak and there's no happy ending either. It took me quite a while to get to grips with all the characters, but once I did I started to really enjoy reading it. It is good, stick with it Xmas Smile
