Start using Mumsnet PremiumHow many books have you read in 2012?
(85 Posts)I posted a thread some weeks ago asking when and how you find the time to read. Thanks for your replies. I'm been reading more since then but am wondering just how many books you've read in the last year?
I've read 12.
About the same. Always see the new year as a chance to read, say a book a week. It has not happened that way........
I'm the same!
In my defence, 2012 was the year I discovered mumsnet.
But I WILL aim for 2 books a month next year.
Its' not as if I find it a chore, I love reading...just spend too much time doing 'stuff'.
Hmmm about the same, although some months I'm more prolific than others.....Depends what grabs me though....
Not enough . One of my resolutions will be to read more. Hopefully one book a week. And mumsnet less.
I must admit to bringing up the average. I read very quickly and get through a book every 2 /3 days. I work f/t and have 2 children and a busy DH. I read at every opportunity & late into the night. I am a big fan of our local library (could not afford to fund or store my habit!) and visit regularly getting out between 12-16 books for myself and some for the children, who (so far) have not inherited my tendencies. My mum is the same as me. I also love listening to audio books and radio serials on BBC Radio 4 Extra. I don't cook much (DH does) and am not mad keen on housework! so perhaps should read less and engage more... but it's an addiction. I have to read. When I go away I pack books first. I couldn't have a kindle, I love to hold a book.
What kind of books do you enjoy overtheseatocalais?
Average 2 a month
My total so far is 35. I was hoping for at least one a week. Will try harder next year.
I'm on 51 - I'm getting twitchy about whether I'll actually make it to 52, I think I need some thing easy to finish the year off on target!
Wow webfizzystuff!
And next year? What's your target?
Probably 12 next year as have a masters dissertation to do and that will sap all the joy from reading!
74. I decided to keep a note of everything I read this past year .. first time I've done that.
Looking back, I wish I hadn't wasted my time on a few of them - Death in Pemberley springs to mind - also, I belong to three book groups which means I ended up reading some books I wouldn't have chosen and didn't especially enjoy, so I'd like to be more choosy in future.
Next year, I'm going to aim to read more classics and follow authors and themes that interest me. I'd like to read the whole Barchester Towers series and also reread some Edith Wharton, Arnold Bennett and Ivy Compton-Burnett among others.
Looking at my total on Goodreads, it says I've read 92 books this year , although to be fair some of those were books I've read to the DC at bedtime eg Roald Dahl, Enid Blyton (and some Rainbow Magic ones
).
I've learnt to be very choosy about kindle books - if its free (and it isn't a classic) there is a reason for it!
I don't keep count. But on average, at least 2 a week.
According to Goodreads, 138 books. A few were short books (under 200 pages) that only took a day to read.
But I don't watch a lot of TV in the evenings and fit in reading whenever I can. DD goes to bed at 8pm and I go to bed at 10:30-11:30pm, so a lot of reading can be done.
29 according to goodreads. Better try and fit one more in. I set a target of 25 so quite pleased. I thought becoming a mother would mean I wouldn't get to read much.
28.
Probably about five.
In shame.
A lot. But I am SAHM with a toddler who occupies himself most of the time and a very messy house.
I finish about four books a week usually so 200 or so?
I've read 53. Am on number 54, but as it's 600 pages long (Jerusalem: the biography), not sure I'll finish it before the end of the year.
That sounds interesting hackmum - who's it by?
I'm on my 125th (Winter Games by Rachel Johnson, really disappointing so going to try to squeeze another one in as I don't want to end the year on a shit book) I read every spare second I get and have been blessed with being able to read really quickly. No matter how many I read I never feel like I'm making a dent into my to-read pile.
22, I am a little dissapointed. However I read quite a lot for work and that is not included.
