(13 Posts)just finished this last night and TBH I don't understand what all the fuss was about.
Certainly didn't think it should have been a contender for the Booker prize.
I found it instantly forgettable. Does anyone think differently?
God I loved this. Funny, heartbreaking, exciting, and totally unputdownable.. If you only read one book this year (doubtful I know, you're on the adult fiction. thread) please make it this one.
I was expecting to LOVE it and I certainly found it funny or interesting in places but I came away feeling surprisingly meh about the whole affair.
I loved it too, it is a book I would highly recommend
I liked it very much, but had it lying around for ages before I started it, one of those recommended reads that I just didn't fancy.
Once I started it I was really swept along, some of it was so beautifully expressed, such as when Eli saw something which affected him greatly he imagined making room for the memory in his head.
A really good story, I want my DS to read it but he is allergic to my recs.
I really loved this book. In fact I read it again, six months later. Shocking, moving, funny. one of my favourites of the last five years.
Oh gawd, its my choice for our book group.
I thought it was an excellent plot With great characters & written in an original way.
I loved this book - laughed out loud at many points and thought the writing style was brilliant. Eli is a great character.
I'm with you Garam. I read it for the MN bookclub and really didn't like it at all. Not my cup of tea
I LOVED it but dh was very meh about it!
I have it ready on my kindle! About five times I have turned to it, but not started it, don't know why!!!!
Now this thread has made me indecisive about it yet again!!
I've kept seeing this book around (work in a library, and lots of Book Groups have done it) and it's 99p on the kindle sale at the mo so I think I'll give it a go for that price. Not that I'll get around to reading it for ages!
