What we're reading

Looking for something to distract me on a flight

Hey, I am flying on Thursday and I hate it. Wondering if anyone could recommend something to read that will take my mind off the flight, ideally something that doesn't involve plane crashes or other stressful events. Something that I could immediately be drawn into and that will keep me occupied for the duration (mercifully short, only 1 and a half hours).

I'll give most things a whirl, just finished The Boy in the Striped Pyjamas/Outliers, love Victorian stuff like Hardy (but don't think anything like that is distracty/plot-driven enough to stop me panicking on a plane) and my favourite author is Nabokov.

Thanks if anyone has any recommendations!

I was just going to recommend "When God was a Rabbit" which I've just finished and loved but there is a section about 9/11 so maybe not too good an idea for a plane journey.
Have you read "The Understudy" by David Nicholls. I'm reading it at the mo and it is good, funny, quite a light read.
I'll think more and get back to you if I come up with anything.

Kate Morton - anything of hers like Forgotton Garden (forgotten sp?) I find her books utterly unputdownable.

Ooh, will have a look for those two, thanks so much for your suggestions. Just discovered the plane is a tiny 30 seater one too which makes me even more scared :(
