Kindle users - do you read more now you have one?

I read a lot more. Mainly because I can always find something TO read! I have lots of ebooks from my brother, so at the moment I am re-reading something I last read in my teens. Have just finished the game of thrones series. It was really great to be able to pre-order the book, and have it waiting for me at 6am the morning of its UK release, ready for me to read while DS was swimming!

Yes I do.

I read a lot anyway, but my Kindle lets me read whilst I am doing all sorts of other things, as it is easy to prop up and you don't have to hold the pages open.

For example:

whilst cleanign my teeth
stirring saucepans
sitting in traffic jams

Yes, and for all the reasons above. I read a lot of fanfiction too and my Kindle is key to my addiction evolving reading habits.

Yes, I read a lot more and from different genres depending on mood. The ability to have half a dozen books on the go, and there at the touch of your fingertips.

I definitely read more, and I am re-reading or reading for the first time a lot of hefty classics. I own lots of them in book form already but can't slip a three inch thick copy of Vanity Fair in the pocket of my bag on the off-chance that DS might fall asleep and give me a chance for a read!

Have also got really into detective novels for some reason, I suppose I wouldn't pay full print price for these but they are really good escapism!

Another who is re-reading loads of books!

Its fab for just having to hand when you get a couple of minutes, but great for unexpected delays, and taking away with you.

In someways its made me more fussy, if I'm not getting into a particular book, I flip to something else rather than percever.

I bought it for DH as he reads lots on the kindle app on his phone, whilst he commutes, but he prefers just to stick to his mobile, so I got his lovely Birthday present for myself!

Reading more than I've ever done. The fact that you can choose your font size just makes reading so much easier for me and like others have said, you can always find something to read.

I agree with everyone else - yes I read a lot more now because you're able to read in many of those odd 'micro'/dead times (time before dcs are let out of school, whilst brushing teeth or drying hair, waiting for pan to come to the boil, waiting for dcs/dh to get out of house/put on shoes/coats/socks etc etc). And find it much more comfortable to read huge tomes in bed and I do love a huge tome!

My Hubby to be brought me my Kindle for a present to cheer me up, its been fab. I have downloaded many ebooks and one of them I saw in the Book Review section on MN, Book Is called Crimson China and what a brilliant read.

I couldn't resist - I went and ordered a brand new one. Arriving on Tuesday. . Have already downloaded some books to my iPad Kindle app. I love the fact that I can sample first chapters for free.

Yes I am reading much more than I have for ages but also I am reading less rubbish books. Have reread all Jane austen, Dracula and have just started frankenstein with wuthering heights next. Haven't found a testemant of youth yet to download but I'm looking

Can I ask, is the screen lit in the same way as an Ipad or laptop? With a new wee baby and darker nights,I am stuck up in my bedroom in the evenings quite a lot feeding her etc, and it is too dark to read a book, I end up just fiddling about with my iphone cos i can see it! Does a Kindle light up in the same way?

as much as I love my kindle, seeing the kindle app on my itouch is a revelation, it's so much more intuitive to use and looks brilliant

there is going to be a kindle 4 released soon that will be a tablet

Something like Testament of Youth is going to be more expensive because it's still copyright (70 years after author's death and I think she died in early 70s)

So much more. Where I used to veg in front of the telly once dc's in bed, now, I read. Re-reading old favourites, discovering new ones. It's just so much easier to handle than a book if you are stuck to the sofa bf'ing or whatever too. I've said this on another thread today, but it really is my arm extension!

yes, because a kindle is so much easier when breastfeeding. have a clip on light which is fab.

Downside: too easy to buy new books

Can you put your own ebooks on there if they are in the right format? I have downloaded some for my phone, but not sure of the copy protection issues. I want one too, I have gotten out of the book reading habit, damn internet.

What is meant by a refurbished one, are these like second hand? They seem cheaper?
