Baby brain book

I have a kindle which I ADORE and am a voracious reader normally. However, I have a baby of almost 6 months and have found myself unable to concentrate very well on any of my usual books. By the time I get to bed I am tired and I am not able to read consistently enough to keep the thread iykwim, and I would love a suggestion of a book that is both intelligent (not Picoult or chick-lit) and yet so gripping and/or easy to keep up with that I can keep up. I recently read 'Before I go to sleep' S J Watson which was brilliant and kept me involved (somehow managed to find the energy to keep going with it, although the baby was smaller and perhaps easier?). Also, 'Into the darkest corner' by Elizabeth Haynes was very good and similarly kept me on board. Any other suggestions or should I accept that my brain cannot follow a plot line anymore?

Gosh, I could've written your post! My DD is 5 months and two of the books which have held my interest since her birth are 'Into The Darkest Corner' and 'Before I Go To Sleep' (was that the Isle of Wight?).

I am currently snoozing my way through The Poisonwood Bible by Barbara Kingsolver, so will be watching your thread with interest...

What's that like Rainy? I have also enjoyed 'The Help', if that helps :).. Btw what do you mean about the Isle of Wight?

Wasn't BIGTS about a woman running from an ex to the IoW? Might be getting mixed up (baby brain).

The Poisonwood Bible (missionaries in 1950s Congo) is doing a great job at sending me off to sleep. And the annoying thing is, I know that if I had the opportunity to read it for more that 5 minutes at a time, I'd be really enjoying it...

Why not look up your 2 recent successes on amazon and see what is on the 'Also bought' lists?

RainySmallHands · 18/07/2011 20:01

I've read the Help. Enjoyed it too Smile

I'm getting mixed up Confused.

I haven't read Before I Go To Sleep. The book I am thinking of is called <a class="break-all" href="//www.amazon.co.uk/Bed-I-Made-Lucie-Whitehouse/dp/1408809133/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1311016724&sr=8-1&tag=mumsnet&ascsubtag=mnforum-21" rel="nofollow noindex" target="_blank">The Bed I Made

It is in a similar vein to Into the Darkest Corner, but not as good.

If it helps, in my rapidly growing Easy-To-Read-Books-While-Wrestling-Baby pile are the following:

<a class="break-all" href="//www.amazon.co.uk/Sister-Rosamund-Lupton/dp/0749942010/ref=sr_1_1?s=books&ie=UTF8&qid=1311016982&sr=1-1&tag=mumsnet&ascsubtag=mnforum-21" rel="nofollow noindex" target="_blank">Sister by Rosamund Lupton

a Sophie Hannah book I can't remember the name of

The Man Who Disappeared by Clare Morrall - doesn't get good reviews though...

and The Ice Cream Girls by Dorothy Koomson

At this rate I should be able to recommend / dissuade by this time next year!

Hi everyone,
these posts caught my eye because I am very interested in the topic of 'Baby Brain' or 'Brain Fog' from a research perspective. This means in reality I am interested in trying to understand what it is and what causes it and why many women report changes in their thinking and memory during pregnancy or after giving birth.

If anybody is interested in sharing their experiences under the mumsnet research area I am advertising for research participants on this topic. Just click on the link below to access the research area and information about this study.
