Do you "read" audio books?

Daft question and only musing, but I have signed up for audible free trial as I spend lots of time in the car and don't get to read everything I want to. But, do audio books "count" as books you have read. If I listen to War and Peace say, can I tick the surveys when they ask if you have read it?

Yes I do. I do a lot of walking and going to the gym and have substituted music for books. This year I have 'read' about 20 books as well as really reading another 80 so far. Listened to the Millennium Trilogy, The Snowman, The Red Tent, White Teeth, and loads of others. Dear Fatty by Dawn French and My Story by Tony Blair particularly great.

Yes- I also subscribe to Audible and listen to books when I'm doing stuff around the house, or in the car.
I'd never get to read anythign otherwise!

Our local library now has e-books and audiobooks which is good, although the current selection is a little limited.

I don't but my 9y loves them when in the car on long journeys. We are currently working our way through the Harry Potter books. I have read them already. DD read the first one and DH I think may have read the first one. But the audio books read by Stephen Fry are excellent. Expensive though! Just bought book 4 and it was £42 - ouch! It is 17 discs long and almost 21 hours long.

I bought a whole load of classics from the Book People for about £20. A big case full of Brontes and Austens and Hardy etc.

If you like listening to books I also recommend R4xtra (used to be R7). They run lots of adaptations of classics and newer books.

We do, I love them. My Parents have loads, and I often borrow them. We always buy a couple of good classics for the whole family to listen too in the car.

I used to download loads from Audible but have had to stop recently due to finances! I found they were bloody brilliant when up in the night with DS and then found myself addicted!

We listen to them a lot in the car, and I often put one on when I'm doing the ironing or something like that. I love them, and yes I would definitely count it as reading, - I read a lot too, but some people can't read an actual book, - with audiobooks they can still be 'well read'.

It's lovely having a story read to you, the only trouble is I have quite often fallen asleep while listening to one in bed and then it is hard to find the place you heard up to

I couldnt 'read' a Hardy but I do love to listen to them.

Same with some of the other classics. I just find them heavy going but adore the stories being told to me.

Definitely! I've recently 'read' The Help and it really came to life hearing the three distinct character voices.

Also 'read' The Magic Faraway Tree on a long car journey recently.

I can recommend The Wilderness by Samantha Harvey as a good read/listen.

I had to listen 3 times to each disc before I 'got' Wuthering heights! ( after having read it as a teenager)
