...is to be played in the film by Tom Cruise!

What a shocking bit of miss-casting, eh?

That is a long way off from the REAL Jack Reacher.

Now I am trying to think of the RIGHT actor to play him...

Tom Cruise!!! How dreadful; surely not? Will now join Dysgu in trying to think of who it should be ...

But Jack Reacher is a tall well built chap. Tom Cruise is a gnome. Madness

Hmm.Daniel Craig???A young Clint Eastwood???

No no no no no no no no!

Tom cruise is WRONG.

should be ray Stevenson (though he's getting older). Or someone else TALL and blonde and rugged.

So not Tom cruise basically.

It will completely RUIN any future Jack Reacher books for me if I see TC playing him..

It was bad enough when I saw the 1st Twilight film before I had finished reading the set, and he wasn't badly cast, just not what I had in mind....

Is going to try extra hard to catch up with any missed books before this film is released! as even if I decline to watch the film, his picture is bound to be pasted everywhere and will kill it for me..

Well, I had to google who Jack Reacher was, and Wikipedia very helpfully has a description of him. Somehow, I think Tom Cruise is missing some of these physical traits - the height, mainly!! Ok, he can dye his hair, but he ain't going to look like a Giant, even if they stand him on a box!! Should be interesting....

"Reacher is a giant, standing at 6' 5" tall (1.96m) with a 50-inch chest, and weighing between 220 and 250 pounds (100?115 kg). He has ice-blue eyes and dirty blond hair. He has very little body fat and his muscular physique is completely natural. He is exceptionally strong but is not a good runner. Reacher is strong enough to break a man's neck with one hand, and kill a villain with a single punch to the head or chest. In a fight against a 7 foot, 400 lb steroid using thug, Reacher was able to lift his opponent into the air and drop him on his head."

But the Reacher books are all the same. DH insists on buying each one when it is released.
I've only read three of them but they seem to be the same story.

I've read 2.

One was excellent, one read like some madster Steven Seagall meats Rambo thing. Thump/slash/swing through some trees/have sex with some upperclass woman, thump/slash/swim through a swamp.

Tom eh? Bless.

Reacher is a giant! They might as well cast me as him and I am hobbit sized.

Perhaps they will use cunning CGI to make him appear much taller than his co-stars a la Robbie Coltrane in the Harry Potter films.

I actually can't think of anyone who could play him but that's part of the problem when you've read all the books and secretly think he is a real person.

NO NO NO NO NO NO NO

I've been a fan for years.

The whole point of Reacher is that he is huge.

Again . NO NO NO NO NO

I've googled and it seems Lee Child is ok with it. I think he has more or less admitted he's in it for the money anyway.

I agree - Tom Cruise is NOT the right person to play this role. I had also envisaged a young Clint Eastwood type. Agree that Daniel Craig might do too. Disappointed to see the previous comment re Lee Child. I'm guessing Tom Cruise = big box office draw = big bucks. Pity.

Ray Stevenson! For SURE. Tom Cruise is a teeny little person.

BecauseImWorthIt · 17/06/2011 08:31

O M G

No way.

Reacher is a giant of a man - Tom Cruise is a little squirt. Reacher has massive sex appeal. Tom Cruise is just wet.

Who on earth thought this was good casting?!

I don't mind TC but never in a million years is he Jack Reacher.

It's true all the books are the same but I love them.
Plot.
Reacher walks into town.
Bad guy mildly insults him.
Bad guys do something bad to some innocent party.
Reacher gets mad.
Reacher gets the girl.
Big "A team" like battle.
Reacher walks out of town without a backwards look.

Tom Cruise!?!?!?

Have they ever read any Lee Child book?

No way is Tom Cruise Jack Reacher...

Report
tillyfernackerpants · 17/06/2011 17:46

No no no no no no, just all wrong

"As for Reacher's hulking physical size, Child wasn't locked into an oversized actor (one reason the film took so long to get off the ground), and it was more about establishing an intimidating presence.

"Reacher's size in the books is a metaphor for an unstoppable force, which Cruise portrays in his own way," Child said when he threw his support behind the move."

NOOOOOOOO!!!!!

I think Tom Cruise has owned the option on the stories for ages, so hopefully he'll be satisfied with directing/producing/whatever, and not tearing all the mystique and attraction of the central character into teeny tiny pieces and throwing them to the four winds....
