Yes, and quite frankly couldn't see what all the hype is about. It was OK, enjoyable, but not earth-shatteringly fantastic IMHO

I started reading it a while ago, then put it down and couldn't find it again. Maybe I will redouble my efforts to locate it, as I had forgotten about it and now it's annoying me that there is an unfinished book somewhere in my house.

It seems to polarise people. I thought it was completely average and actually a bit ploddy and boring in places. Loads of people rave about it though. Saw the 'shock' coming a mile off.

I loved it, my husband started it last year on holiday and I started reading it in between, I'm not sure about the film though, they're never as good as the book.

It's a good book but not life changing or anything. And you can see the ending coming a mile off. It's better than Starter for Ten though.

I liked Starter for Ten better :) I thought it was a nice easy read.

I enjoyed it and didn't see the shock part coming. Made me quite sad for days as I was enjoying a 'light' read. Good book and I keep meaning to get Starter for Ten too.

I thought it was drivel.

Oh god yes I loved it. I bought it because dh and I have been together for 20 yrs so the couple in it reminded me of us, although we didn't separate early on like they did. It had the 'shock' moment which always gets me and I just thought it was a great read. The idea of picking the same day each year was different and unusual. Look fward to seeing the film

I liked the book but hated the shock. It felt like a shock for shock's sake and I actually felt a bit cheated by the end of it, like I had invested in the characters and their story had been thrown away (sorry for being a little dramatic!) I much preferred Starter for Ten and The Understudy.

I've just finished this and I completely agree with OOMW- shock for shock's sake. It was a decent enough read, clever concept to revisit the same day every year, etc, but I'm sure I'll have forgotten ever having read it within a couple of months.

Did you know they are making a movie with Anne Hathaway as Emma? Not sure that I would have pictured her in that role but there you go.

I thought it tried too hard to be clever, tbh. It was okay, I wasn't bored but it didn't grip me in a 'read until 3am because I can't put it down' way.

Normally I sob over endings like that but I wasn't moved by this at all.

I was expecting a lot more from this book. I would put it in the 'chicklit' genre.

I might watch that movie, if only to see if Anne Hathaway can do a decent Yorkshire accent. ;)

It was a light, entertaining read. I wouldn't read it twice.

Seen the trailer - Hathaway can in no way do a Yorkshire accent.

I don't think I like his way of writing. I didn't like Starter for Ten and I hated One Day (esp as my sisters kept telling me how FAB it was - a build up always makes if crash down further). Just didn't like any of the characters - thought they were both awful and selfish and I also saw the shock coming a LONG way off. Disappointing.
