Anyone but me a fan - well, kinda? I loved Prep and liked American Wife. Though the idea of sex with George W. Bush was seriously horrible. But the main character is a wonderful and very sad creation.

I've read American Wife, and and now reading The Man of My Dreams, which I'm really enjoying.

Looking forward to reading Prep.

I thought American Wife was really, really boring. I struggled to the end but wished I hadn't bothered tbh. Not read any others and almost certainly won't.

I loved American Wife. There was another thread about it recently. Still trying to get around to Prep but I've heard good things!

The other thread was mine, Bue! I was so disappointed in it and had hoped for better because lots of people on here liked it, it seems.

Interesting, Ghoul! Did you not like Alice, then? And yay to the rest of you. I think I like novels with this kind of cool, reflective main character.

I loved American Wife - i've strong-armed my book group into reading it this month :) I am off now to check out Prep.

Nope - I thought Alice was a v boring prig tbh. In fact, the more I think about it the more I wonder why I forced myself through it. I normally give a book up if I'm still not liking it after thirty a hundred pages.

She is a great writer, and I enjoyed AW more than Prep - but I read that not long after finishing The Secret History, which is in a whole other league.
I didn't know she had another book out - is 'The Man of My Dreams' any good, LoveMyBoots?

The Man of My Dreams is good, much shorter than American Wife. The main character is another interesting one. I'm not finding so much time to read at the moment, but will speed it up a bit, as I want to see how it ends!

Ghoul, maybe it's a compliment to Sittenfeld that you pressed on!!!

I liked Prep a lot. Is the characterisation as good in her other books?
Although a lot of the kids in Prep are total cliches, they seemed so alive to me.
