Thinking of joining...

Thinking of joining to help get my diet and exercise back on track. I have an 11 week old baby and although I haven't weighed myself reckon I have about a stone to lose.

I used to obsess about my weight but stopped about 3-4 years ago when I ate fantastically well, worked out intensively 5 days a week and was still "over weight". I decided to concentrate on healthy rather than a number on the scale.

However, I'm now feeling squishy post baby and my diet isn't what it once was. I struggled to work out during my pregnancy and could barely walk by the end of it. I'm not doing any exercise at the minute as I'm so out of a routine. I've done WW previously but it's been many years and I know they have revamped the points system so it's not all about low fat and calories. However, it seems there may be some emphasis on fat still and I'm really anti low fat as I know I need the fat to stay full if I'm mostly eating protein and veg. Is it difficult to stick to your points if you eat full fat dairy and butter etc? I know I could lose if I cut out refined sugar and ate healthier generally but the accountability of WW and writing it all down appeals to me as I think I'll have more success with specific goals.

Also... can you bring your baby to meetings? Confused

Oh! Also, if I join today/this week. Can use this week to prepare and start next week?

Anyone have success in getting their partner to do it too?

Please don't. You're going to end up in the cycle of low fat restrictive dieting and then putting it back on. Yes it's hard when Tiger just had a baby (post ds2 was when I started ww and I wish I hadn't now). Weight loss is simply less calories consumed than burned, not made up points, syns and low fat nutritionally devoid food. myfitnesspal is your free friend. Doing a restrictive diet is also not going to help with your feeling fitter and healthier and will restart your obsession with weight as that's all it focuses on, not fat loss and muscle gain.

WW works for me. 9st lost so far. SmartPoints are calculated on calories, saturated fat, sugar and protein. If the protein content is higher it lower the points a little. I like the flexibility of being bale to eat pretty healthily most of the time and still allow for treats and eating out, etc. In addition to your daily points, you get weekly ones. These can be used spread out over the week, or in one go, depending in what suits you. I mostly point but sometime do No Count days instead. No Count is simply eating from a list of healthy foods that are allowed and really cooking from scratch. You eat until satisfied, not stuffed, so need to keep an eye on portion sizes. You still have the same weekly points allowance whether you do no count or tracking points.

For me this is a lifestyle change and I feel so much fitter and healthier than I have done for many, many years. I think usually you don't get given No Count info until you are a few weeks in, but their is lots of info aviable and if that appealed more than pointing, then ask for the info if you go to a meeting. There are a few FB groups around too, which I find helpful and motivating. I have seen quite a few following WW, who still prefer to have a bit of butter instead of low fat spread, so they just point it. Some prefer to save their points for alcohol. Everyone's different and the flexibility of the plan suits me.

Interesting. I don't agree with you on calories in/calories out tbh as I believe it's more about what you are actually eating. Hence why a packet of crisps and a banana are no longer the same number of points on WW. I did my fitness pal about 5 years ago and didn't think it was anything special.

I do agree that getting fitter and healthier is not just about a number on a scale which is one of the issues I have with WW and SW. But, I'm keen on the tools and accountability. Did you to WW recently?

You are right, it is more complicated than calories in VS out but that would involve getting your head round macronutrients. Take a look at RHFitness on fb as a starting point (and cheaper than ww) if you are interested, I'm not connected to them or following any plan but it makes sense. Ww absolutely does work, all diets do, however they are not a long term solution as it's been proven that the vast majority of people end up weighing more. Ultimately it's up to you, I'd just caution you against becoming weight obsessed as like you say, it's a number on a scale and not a measure of fat loss.

Are you breastfeeding? Breastfeeding caused me to gain weight - I was within 9lb of my pre pregnancy weight at one week post partum. At 9 weeks pp I'd put on another 7lb! 4lb came off very, very slowly once I'd finished feeding. I joined WW 23 days ago and I've lost 10lb so far. I love It. I feel like I've changed my eating habits. I had a day off tracking on Monday because we were out at a special event and I didn't want to point things inaccurately. Instead I just ate sensibly. Dh bought a family sized bar of chocolate and I ate 2 squares. Before I'd have eaten at least half. Weighed in today and id still lost 2lb. I feel like I've 'reset myself. I was a size 12 when I got pregnant. Went up to a 14 after giving birth, now back a 12 again and aiming for a size 10. If you are feeding, make sure you say so that you get extra points. If not, you are good to go. I only do online because I can't do public weigh ins. I really like the connect session where you can see other people's progress. Good luck!

Yes I am breastfeeding and I'm hungry all the time! I fit into my pre pregnancy clothes and think I'm about the same weight but I just feel squishy and unfit.
