I understand why ww have added points to blended fruit (kind of), but how can it have the same points as juice? Surely there's no doubt that blended whole fruit is healthier, more filling, more nutritious, higher in fibre etc than fruit juice. So why do they now contain the same amount of points?
I'm assuming because even with all the nutritional benefits it comes with, pureed fruit has the same amount of sugars as fruit juice so would have the same calorie content which is what these diets are based on
But blended fruit has the same calorie content and sugar as whole fruit as nothing's been taken out. Fruit juice isn't the same because the fibre has been removed and so the sugar is more concentrated. No?
It's to do with satiability. To make a juice you'd 4, 5 or even 6 pieces of fruit and drink it in 2 or 3 minutes. Because you've blended it, you've broken down the fibre content and your stomach doesn't have to work to digest it and you're hungry again fairly quickly. If you sat and ate those pieces of fruit as whole fruits it would take up to half an hour and would keep you satisfied for a lot longer because your stomach has to work on it.
Yes. Because your body doesn't have to make any effort to break it down, you're get all the calories from the sugar. Vegetable based smoothies are fine as they still have non-soluble fibre in it so you expend calories ingesting it.
