New weightwatchers Smartpoints plan...

...coming to a meeting near you as of next week.

I wonder what changes they will bring. I have spotted by scrolling forwards on the tracker that I will get slightly more daily points, but fewer weekly points. It also doesn't let you track if you get to that point yet, because the way that points are calculated seems to be changing.

I know that there's been a clear 'Sugar is bad for you' message in the meeting a few weeks ago. I've read that items higher in sugar will go up in value so that ww (in their own words) will 'give you a budget of points to stick to, and a nudge in the direction of eating more healthily'.

I'm sort of interested to see what they new plan will be like, I don't really like propoints too much. I got to goal on vintage points so I prefer them. BUT I'm not impressed that I'll have to re-buy all the point books and calculator as the whole thing will be different.

you won't have to rebuy calculator and scales if they are propoints - leader said they will swap them free of charge as well as the eat out guide and the shop book - not sure why your leader didn't tell you that

I'm so glad there is going to be a reduction in sugar that's my whole issue w WW and I'm interested to see what the new version looks like.

My leader hasn't mentioned the change at all, she's just set up and has very informal meetings. I shall ask her tomorrow though about swapping books as I gave read on the ww boards that they will do that. Does it depend how old the books are though, I wonder. Mine are a year or two old.

Leader told me that they won't swap books but they will put pdfs of the new Smartpoint values on their website for you to print off.

brunette123 · 07/12/2015 08:36

Ie they won't swap recipe books only eat out and shop books

Report
CharleyDavidson · 07/12/2015 23:47

It was the eat put and shop books I wanted to swap and my leader did, no problem. I just need to decide if I want the calculator swapping too as I think they will swap that too.

Have to say not liking the new ww. I have been on pro points for 6wks and lost 9lbs (down to 12 stone). I am bfing and had 42 points a day. I now have 52 which is insane. My 17 stone bf has fewer points and pretty much everything he eats regularly has gone up massively and weekly points have come down. I agree that sugar should be harder to eat and stay in points, but I think they have gone too far imo. There is a real danger he will fall off the wagon.

I have been doing WW for 6 years and got to goal 4 years ago on propoints - smartpoints is not for me either so will have to go alone on propoints and keep quiet at meetings - shame there is no online tracker as I used that daily - unless you eat alot of meat then SP is a hard plan I feel and not sure why a pint of beer is less smartpoints than a pint of skimmed - well I do it is the sugar but lactose is a naturally occuring sugar - my OH eats tons of meat including bacon and ham and he would easily be able to stay within points if he did SPs but he is increasingly cancer risk. I just don't buy the whole healthy thing as they have targeted only sugar and sat fat and not processed meats and alcohol which carry as many risks.

Watching with interest.

PP hasn't been very good for me so I prefer to do filling and healthy. However even that has a message of 'full fat is bad for you', such as yoghurt and so on, which I really fail to see as low fat often = high sugar.

I am all for anything that reflects a shift in attitude to a low sugar, high (good) fat diet.

That said they seriously need to sort out the many, many bugs in the new website and app.

When does the new plan start for online users? Mine still looks the same...

I rolled over on Monday as an at home member, not impressed so far

I added up my calories from the values in the app to see what my intake was like on Monday and it came to 856kcal, even with fruit and veg I was below 1000kcal

That doesn't feel like a sustainable diet long term and Im seriously considering returning to Propoints which has been fine for me

I'm undecided atm, with PP I was on 26 per day and always used to go over by about 3-4, now I have 30 SP per day...so not much change there for me.

Based on what I've eaten so far I haven't seen much change (I can't eat wheat/gluten and have cut out refined sugar anyway), apparently lean meat is lower in points? Hopefully salmon is too, it was very high on PP.

I guess I won't know until I take my cooking scales in to be swapped as I'm not having much luck with the website...I feel like I am taking a bit of a gamble there, once they are gone they are gone and PP has worked so far (just over 3 stone down).

I've also whipped up an excel spread sheet as the new WW online seems really slow! I liked the old (admittedly rather dull) interface, it was fast and let you put in your own portion size.

1000 calories? Was that just your daily allowance though or did it include 1/7 of your weeklies too?

Report
Schrodingersmum · 09/12/2015 15:01

I had a propoints level of 26 and never used weekly allowance or excercise points

As a coeliac and vegetarian pro points worked well having lost over 3 stone in 6 months

But many basic items have gone up in value so even with 30 points on the new plan its a lot tighter on points, even staples like yogurts are now 2 pts and exercise points are worth nothing now

I've been ok so far with what I choose to eat. I've not used any weekly points yet.

I don't like eating first thing, so point for milk and then don't eat til lunchtime. Then it's soup or a salad or philly light and crackers with fruit for dinner. Perhaps a chewy delight bar if I want something sweet. Then at dinner I have been able to fit things I normally eat into the plan so far. Yesterday was pork loin with stuffing, veg, a bit of gravy and some sweet potato fries. Later in the evening I may have a bowl of cereal or porridge if I'm peckish.

I've noticed that the protein foods being lower in points saves a few valuable points for other foods or lets you have a bit more to help you stay fuller for longer.

I lost 2 and a half pounds last week, half on propoints and half on smart points because it rolled over on the Sunday regardless of what day I weighed in.

Did you notice your philly go up in points CharleyDavidson ? Our leader said (that makes it sound like we are part of some sort of cult...) that soft cheeses were going to be higher in points.

I wish they'd stop changing it
I think I'll just pay for an LA gym membership instead you know and some PT sessions

My friend who I work with is getting really stressed about it all, she has lost 6.5 stones over the past 9 months

Report
ghostyslovesheep · 09/12/2015 20:21

a fair few things went up in points - including veg curry!

I tend to have a banana for breaky with coffee (milk points)

I love a Veggie Delight salad from Subway at lunchtime and maybe a pack of french fries

tea tends to be veg curry or a ready meal (only me) so mushroom risotto or veg lasagne (sainsbury's low fat) and lots of salad or veg

I love Asda greek yog ice 'cream' and lots of fruit for pudding

30g philly light is 2 spts. I can't remember if that's the same or more as ppts. I never really got on with propoints so the values haven't really stuck in my head.

Hmmm I see they have got rid of displaying the 'filling and healthy' green symbol if you're counting points. That's a shame. Even when I'm counting points I would still try to get lots of 'green' foods in. Doesn't make sense why they would get rid of that feature.

All the foods I have added before are now showing with a points value of 0 in the 'custom food' section!

has anyone got a list of the foods which are surpisingly higher on SPs?

I noticed muller crunch corners have gone from 5PP to 9SP O_O - after I'd eaten my post-weigh in treat (and not actually lost anything this week, bah!)

Schrodinger, about the excercise Points.... I think the leader said somethin similar to you about them, but in the info I've got, they just say how many points you get. Can't see where it says you can't eat them?! Xmas Grin
