Did anyone else get a power hoop for Christmas?

I've fancied hula hooping and the DCs have given me a weighted hoop for Christmas.

Anyone else want to do a weight loss/fitness thread and trade tracks to hoop to etc?

I've had mine for a while though it's shoved in the back of a cupboard. I suppose I could dig it out and join you.

That would be great! I'm full of YouTube enthusiasm right now but I'm pretty sure I'll need company to keep it up.

Just weighed myself (urgh) and about to measure myself...

They are great. I did notice a difference when I was using it daily. I only stopped when my Dp came into the bedroom when I was using it in my bra and knickers and started filming my performance on his phone. I've not recovered from seeing my flab jiggling around on tape.

ROFL. I can see how that would put you off!

What kind of difference did you notice? I'm pretty much expecting to be Elle Macpherson...

I go to powerhoop classes at our local gym but am still quite rubbish at it. Some of the girls that have been going for a while can do dance moves, jump and go up and down a step all while hooping. I am still getting to grips with keeping the hoop up!

Dh got me a powerhoop for christmas (the 5lb one) so i can practice at home too. I notice a difference in some of the women that go to the classes - their waists are much slimmer and more defined.

I've got quite a lot of loose skin die to a 10 stone weight loss and having 4 kids and even my mum noticed that my stomach didn't look anywhere neat ad saggy aftet just a few weeks. I went down a dress size in around 4 weeks too. It does give you a really defined waist.

Sorry about typos. Stupid phone.

well done on the weight loss - wish I had the motiavtion to lose weight and keep it off! I did go to a powerhoop class today though so thats good.

MotherOfNations Fri 28-Dec-12 19:54:05

You'll hate me when I tell you I wasn't even really trying. It all started coming off so easily yet now when I try to lose a few pounds it won't shift.
If you saw all the loose skin on my stomach you'd soon feel better though.

Wow, 10 stone! How did you do it?

About to settle down to Day 3 of hooping. I am feeling it around my waist a bit but I can't tell if it's just a bit of bruising or if the muscles are starting to work. Do you guys work to a DVD?

dishwashervodkaanddietirnbru Sat 29-Dec-12 16:56:39

After I did my first powerhoop class I had really bad black bruising at my ribs - it looked as if I had been beaten up! I dont get that any more thank goodness.

If you have sky there is a channel that does powerhoop workouts (I think channel 282). I practice in my bedroom at the moment as that is the only room with enough space for the huge hoop I have

dishwashervodkaanddietirnbru Sat 29-Dec-12 16:57:43

have you checked your local gym to see if they do powerhoop classes? I like going to classes as it is more social.

dishwashervodkaanddietirnbru Sat 29-Dec-12 16:58:31

have checked sky and there is a powerhoop workout on channel 282 at 4.30pm tomorrow

MotherOfNations Sat 29-Dec-12 17:04:42

The weight first started coming off when I left home in my late teens. I got my first boyfriend then too so was getting more exercise IYSWIM. It was that and cooking for myself so not eating my mums massive portions any more.
I was too skint to afford bus fare so I had to walk everywhere too. I'd already lost loads before I even realised it myself.

SundaeGirl Sat 29-Dec-12 19:37:31

Ouch! Just tried to hoop and had to give up - too bruised! - I think I overdid it yesterday.

Please tell me this improves?!

Haven't got sky but will YouTube the Sky power hoop workout

MotherOfNations Sat 29-Dec-12 19:46:47

I want sky now. It might keep me motivated. Has anyone else noticed shoulder pain when hooping?

dishwashervodkaanddietirnbru Sat 29-Dec-12 19:51:57

the powerhoop website says this:

NOTE: Use your hoop for no more than one or two minutes on the first day, and increase gradually as your muscles get stronger. Overuse can results in soreness, and even bruising

When I got bruising after my first hoop class I didnt go back for 2 weeks to let the bruising calm down. I then did 1 class a week and now try to get to 2 classe a week. I dont get bruising now.

dishwashervodkaanddietirnbru Sat 29-Dec-12 19:53:04

p.s. my shoulders do hurt sometimes but I think thats because you tense them when trying to keep your arms out of the way of the hoop

MotherOfNations Sat 29-Dec-12 20:49:44

The shoulder pain always puts me off. I've had blisters on my feet too because of the rocking back and forth on them.

The hoop girl on YouTube (DC hoop collective) is phenomenal. Black, bald and so beautiful. I've inherited SILs unused hoop - will get cracking.

Thanks for the Sky fitness info -have set it up to record and will give it a go! Picked up my hoop yesterday from Argos and have had a couple of goes - absolute agony as it keeps riding up and swinging across my nipples. Strangely enough Jessica Ennis doesn't mention this as a hazard on the box ....hmm

dishwashervodkaanddietirnbru Sun 30-Dec-12 14:51:01

Remember you have to use a back and forward movement rather than a circular movement and it does take a lot of practice.

MotherOfNations Sun 30-Dec-12 16:07:51

Oh and remember to hoop in both directions.

dishwashervodkaanddietirnbru Sun 30-Dec-12 16:11:55

And if you are hooping to the right step the right foot forward, if to the left step the left foot forward.
