It really shouldn't be as I feel much better when I don't but its so hard not to reach out for biscuits and cake.

Any tips will be gratefully recieved.....

The following have helped me:-
Don't keep any cakes or biscuits etc in the house - if they are not there you cannot eat them!
Plan you meals carefully - shop with a list and buy only what is on the list.
Keep occupied and then you don't think about food so much.
Make nice healthy meals that you enjoy preparing and eating.
Get in the habit of having healthy snacks (fruit, small amounts of dried fruit, low fat yoghurts etc)
Have a sugar free drink instead of something to eat.
Probably most important for me was establishing a focus on eating healithy in general - I sort of look on it as a hobby and have become quite involved in the whole healthy eating thing. As you say, you feel so much better if you don't eat the rubbish -m so do yourself a favour and STOP!

Thanks Dorothy. I needed to be shouted at
I generally eat healthily and cook from scratch most days. There's always fruit in the house.
I don't usually have too much junk in the house but there are snacks for the children and dh. If there isn't anything, I resort to jam on toast, cereal, anything I can find.
I just get uncontrollable binge urges.

Anyway, I'm really trying now. I have done well today.
Now the evening battle begins. I need to stay strong.

I also find drinking lots of water helps when you think you are hungry. I agree though that it can be hard. I am the worlds worst with chocolate and snacks normally. I can't believe myself that I haven't craved them too much since I have been on this diet.

I found inspiration (!) from Nerys and India's book about how they lost 5 stone each. If you're having a crap morning, eating a packet of Jaffa cakes will just make it worse, it doesn't make it better. Ditto if you're eating from boredom; it doesn't make you less bored. Ditto if snacking out of habit. etc etc.

I think it's so easy to do the sleep-walking-into-overeating thing. Sometimes you need a reason NOT to eat all that stuff.

Thanks for reminding me about the water. I know that definitely helps.
I'mgoing to have a look at that book as I've heard loads of people recommend it.

I haven't heard of that book. What is it called? Is it a particular diet?

It's called Neris and India's Idiot proof diet -how we lost 10 stone (india Knight and Neris Thomas).

Basically it's like Atkins etc which has a 2 week very low carb induction period, but it seems to work by being aimed at now-longer-young women living in Britain, not California etc!

They do a day-by-day diary of how each one felt during those two weeks, after a solid introduction of how each ended up the size they didn't want to be.

I found it very helpful

Thanks BlueKangeroo, I had a brief look and will look into it properly.

The diet I am doing at the moment is a low carb diet. It's called Go Lower and I am losing weight on it but it's always interesting to hear about other diets.

BlueKangaroo - I've just read up on the Neris and India diet. It sounds as if you can eat almost anything.
