I've lost over 3.5 stone in 5 months!! And I did it without dieting.

I have gone from 14 and a half stone - which I weighed a couple of weeks after having DD, second baby - to 10 stone 10lbs, which means that I'm a healthy weight for the first time in around 8 years.

I made a conscious decision to cut down on portion size and fatty foods, but haven't followed any particular diet. In fact I've actively avoided diet groups and slimmimg magazines which have only ever served to depress me. The entire diet industry seems not only women-hating but generally unhelpful and even counterproductive.

I have read Fat is a Feminist Issue which I found fascinating and inspiring.I would recommend it to anyone whose overeating is a long term problem.

Apart from that, just wanted to share!! I am really proud of myself for doing what I never thought i could. But I still resent the way that women are made to feel that happiness is only achievable through slimness. It's a myth. I am still plagued by worry, stress, bills, family probs. I still feel pressure to be more attractive. I hope that I've lost weight for myself, on my own terms. Just wanted to let others know that weight loss is possible without resorting to subsidising the diet industry.

Well done you!
I have been inspired to look after myself more and it's good to know great results are possible without buying into all that craziness!

Well done I too have lost 3 stone since January by cutting down portion sizes , eating more fruit and veg and walking every day. Although i can now fit into a size 12 my brain has still to catch up with my body as I don't sometimes see what others see. Do you feel like that?

I think I hate you.

No, seriously well done. I read Fat is a feminist issue some years ago - perhaps I should dig it out and re-read.

Following sensible eating plans and portion control is definitely the way to go.

Well done again

Absolutely Hayes! I still feel like a size 16 'deep down', which is crazy. I don't feel like I thought I would do as a size 12. Well done to you too

If I knew how easy it would be,I would have done it years ago!

FIAFI was definitely helpful HMC, although the main thing I got from it was just the self-belief to stay away from the diet industry!

I have been a binge eater and borderline bulimic all my life. I honestly thought /i was destined to be overweight always. It's a liberating feeling just to know that I've broken that destructive cycle

flubber - since I had my first child 6 years ago I have piled on the weight. I need some inspiration. Stories like yours are definitely helpful. Resolved to re-visit Susie Orbach

I agree, cos I have found it easy thats the weird thing. I've been going to slimming clubs for 15 years and it hasn't clicked but this time around it has and its just sensible stuff.

I used to think I'd never be a 12 but now I'm here I realise its not as great as I thought it would be...I'd like to drop another stone from here, I have massive boobs though that aren't getting much smaller just more sad and droopy looking I think they make me look bigger than I am.

I'm going to read the book your mentioned...sounds interesting

Well done, that's amazing. I have yoyo dieted all my adult life only recently I just can't seem to get started. I need to lose weight to embark on ttc dc2 at a healthier state than I am now but I can't bear the thought of a diet.

Have ordered the book. Always meant to read it anyway.

Well done, I might read that book too. I too have struggled all my life with my weight, I', 27 just had my second baby 6 wks ago and the 'diet' starts monday! I say 'diet' I may follow slimming world as much as I can but am just going to make healthier choices i think. I hve lost 3 stone beofre just from doing my exercise bike 5 nights a week and watching what I was eating. Exercise stopped - weight piled back on then I got PG.

I've lost 2 stone of baby weight in the first 2 wks without doing anything and have a stone to go now to get back to pre-preg weight - which was 14 n half stone, so need to lose about 5 stone ideal but I'd behappy with 3!

wow flubber, that's amazing. I'm so pleased that you've successfully liberated yourself from the horrible claws of the slimming industry. I'm a big fan of Susie, but struggling to really let go of the voice in my head that tells me I should be slim.

Have you seen her website AnyBody?

firstly - well done you... it is amazing that you have been able to do this by yourself

however

all this "liberating yourself from the claws of the diet industry talk" is a bit silly, I'm on WW because I chose to take my fat arse to one of their meetings at the end of march and I chose to follow the plan and what do you know, 4.5 months later I've lost nearly 3.5st.

I didn't do it because anybody made me, and I certainly don't go to the meetings because they have "their claws in me" - I only buy WW products from my local poundstretcher so not lining any pockets either!

FWIW I suspect I am a teeny bit jealous that you are able to do it off your own back, I don't think I could if I'm honest!

well done again x

Hayes, big boobs make you look bigger if you don't dress them the right way.

If you wear high-necked tops you get the Barbara Woodhouse look - you actually have to kind of show them off and wear lowish round- or v-necks (camisoles underneath are good for modesty), cardis with top buttons cheekily opened to show off said camisole, ditto with blouses.

Parson me if this is what you're already doing!

WWW - poundstretcher sell WW stuff, it is worth a visit?

wickedwitchofwestfield · 04/08/2009 10:07

cheeky - I think it is.
at the moment in the two I've seen (lewisham and hammersmith)
they have about 4 different varieties of the 6 pack of crisps (2 x tortillas, hoops and cheesy puffs) a chocolate cookie mix, naan bread, jams and various cooking sauces.
worth a nosey if nothing else I reckon!

I've just started to read the book and I had to put it down. Was reading it on the train and thought I was going to cry I'm only a couple of pages in but that list of what being fat means ticked so many boxes with me. I have never seen exactly how I feel put into words. It's very hard to read but very intersting.
