Having always been chunky since I was about 17, now I am really at breaking point. I have started so many healthy eating plans in the past and never get beyond the first week until now.

I don't really want to do a 'diet' as such, just cut down on the calories and excercise sensibly. I don't think I could or (want to) cut any food groups out so so far I have been just making healthier choices. More fruit and veg, not snacking on biscuits/ crisps etc. For quick and easy meals, I have been using the weight watchers prepared meals which are suprisingly tastey.

I am 5ft 8 and weighed 13stone 13lbs two weeks ago. Meaning I am nearly obese according to the body mass index. For the past 2 weeks I have been watching what I eat and going swimming twice a week. I now weigh 13stone 7lbs which I am pleased the healthy eating/ fitness plan seems to be working although I am still suffering from cravings and need motivation from you nice mnetters!

My waist is around a size 12 which is fine by me but all my fat seems to collect on my thighs and bum, meaning I have to buy size 18 jeans just to fit over my legs and then they just gape and look horrid around my waist. Nothing fits comfortably on my bottom half, I am so out of proportion.

I have 20 month old ds who keeps me busy but I do feel that having eaten all his left overs and snacking everytime he does for the past 20 months has not been kind to my wobbly bits!!

So that's the story so far.... anyone want o join in or share their stories??

at 5' 8' what should you weigh? well done on losing so far, you dont want to lose that much all the time or you will get muscle wastage. I need to lose 2 stone and am also trying to do it by eating less crap and moving more. I have found that writing down everything I eat is really good as you dont want to eat crap if you know you have to write it down.

also meant to say that while annoying ewight on your bum and legs is a very healthy way to carry weight. I carry all of mine on my stomach which is apparently more dangerous.

I was the shorter version, 5.3, of you (well not really but ykwim) at the start of 2006 I was 13.13, lost a bit by cutting down on junk and by walking more and swimming now and again in Jan 2008 I joined WW weighing 12 stone by june 2008 I was down to my target weight of 9st 7lbs, I now weigh 9.9 and I'm trying to lose weight again because I'm getting married later this year and I'd like to have a bikini body for the beach!

You are so lucky to be able to get into a size 12 anything when I was that weight I was in size 18/ 20!

Do a search of my weightloss posts if you like (it's mostly waffle but maybe it will also give you some hints, tips and inspiration)

Good Luck!!! If you're anything like me you will feel a million times better when you have done it and will wonder why you didn't do it sooner!

Thanks for replying. Good idea about writing everything down I eat, I think that would help. I think the only reason I have lost 6lbs in 2 weeks is cos it's been a shock to the system being actiuve and not eating junk all day, I have no doubt that it will level off to be about 1-2lbs a week, which is fine, I really want to do it sensibly.

I should weight between 9stone and 11stone 5lbs. I will never be down to 9 stone though. I was wen I was at school and I did look too thin for my build and height. I ideally want to be about 10.5 stone if possible.

I have heard that it's healthier to carry it on your bum too but I just wish it felt healthier! I am very unfit. I am 25 and I do struggle to walk up hills and and run after ds, I usually leave all that to dh which is not good. I don't want it to spiral anymore. I've been wanting to loose weight since I was 12stone 4lbs but the weight just keeps creeping on and every year I leave it, the more I have to lose. I need to do this or else I really will never stop getting bigger.

Good luck with thelosing 2 stone. How are you moving more, are you just trying to walk more or are you actually excercising. I find I have little patience for any activity but swimming and walking!

Hiya,

I need to lose 1.5 stone as I am exactly the same weight I was the day after I had my DD...nearly 8 months ago

I second what's been said about carrying weight on your bum and hips - mine is all around my waist and my hips and bum are pretty much the same size they were when I weighed 2 stone less. Carrying weight around your middle is really dangerous which is the main reason I'm motivating myself to do something about it.

I got a bit lost with the whole thing so I went to see the dietician at my local surgery and she did give me loads of tips and I have a much clearer idea of what I should be eating on a daily basis now.

My problem wasn't junk but portion control but the guide she gave me was 6 portions of carbs and 2 of protein a day (a portion of carbs being a medium or thin slice of bread or a small serving of potatos). She also advised me not to use more than 120 grams of spread a week and to put the whole lot in a separate pot in the beginning of the week so I could ration it better.

Anyway, it seems to be working as I'm ravenous lighter already and I only started last week.

Good luck!

I love the foo's too

I think I did it because I really was so fed up, I'm so short that being fat makes me look massive and I wanted to have more energy.

I can now walk and not get out of breath, can go upstairs in 3 jumps, do my job better (childminder) and I feel fitter and sexier!

I still go to aquafit every week, will go swimming once a week if i have time (used to do 10 lengths can now do 50, a minute per length)

I think once you get past a stone people start to compliment you alot of the time which spurs you on even more.

I booked a weekend away with dp for May in Feb so that kept me going too, I wanted to be in my size 12 jeans by the time we got on that plane - I almost managed it but not quite, I could get in them but they were still a bit too tight to wear comfortably but I'm wearing them as I type now!

I concentrated on half a stone at a time and rewarded myself on a friday night.

I'll join in too. I have between 4-5 stone to lose. I want to be a size 10 again so not too bothered what I weigh as long as I can get back into my size 10 clothes. I'm now a 16-18 depending on where I shop.

I'm going to weight watchers starting tomorrow and I am going to go swimming a couple of times a week. I have a problem with my knee and as soon as the physio says I can exercise properly again I will be going to the gym too.

I'm setting myself a goal of being a size 14 by October and hopefully a size 10 by next summer.

I lost 4 stone a couple of yewars ago but have put 2 of it back on, one problem that I have realised is that I have unrealistic goals, I get to a size 190 and think actually I would like to be an 8, I am not a skinny build so it is not going to happen, thn i give up and it piles back on. I used to go to the gym 4 or 5 times a week but I lost my motivation, I cancelled my membership and bought myself a wii fit, i try to do at least an hour a day on it.
I have lost 9lbs since xmas which is quite good although I dont look any differnt for it, I think the half a stone at a time is a good goal, reach that then set a new one. I am going away in the summer and would like to be 9.5stone by then, I am currently 11st 10lbs. My first goal that i set myself was 11.5stone, I am nearly there although it has taken 3 months.
Another trick I have found is the nminute you have finished your meal go and do something busy, it takes a really lontg timne for your brain to realise you are full and this is when I eat far too much.
There are certin treats that I know if i give up I will feel hard done by so need to make these mny only treats, these are, crisps at playgroup twice a week. 1/2 portion of chips once a week when the dc have them. A bottle of wine at the weekend. I figure if I am really sensible the rest if the time I will be alright to eat these. I also did slimming world a while ago and try to stick to the principles iof that, eat a lot of very l;ow fat food so you are full, i am currently having a massive bowl of rice.

I'm on the Food Dairy thread as well but need all the support I can get!

5ft 5 inches and 11st 6lbs.Can just squeeze into a 14.

Feeling really fat and now the warmer weather is here I am ashamed to come out from my baggy jumpers.

I am 40 in May so would love to look back at photo's and see a slim me. DH is taking me on a 3 day break to who knows where but I have told it will be warm and I could wear a bikini!!

Like you all I seem to be good for a few days then pig out and feel guilty and vow to start again Monday.

I'm 5ft 5 and have 2 stone to lose so can I join as well

started a thread the other day saying I can't stop eating, and that was a bit of a wake-up call.

It's the back fat, the muffin top, the bingo wings, the moon face..... DH was telling me a funny story last night and every time I laughed I just thought 'oh my God I look like a cabbage patch kid.....as he talks is he secretly wondering how he ended up married to the pilsbury dough boy?'

so, walked briskly with the buggy today, not snacked but eaten fruit and will be on here regularly looking for good tips

Hi MaggsS

Thanks - you too. I'm hopefully making moves in the right direction - mainly I've stopped drinking and have told myself I am only going to drink socially. I was drinking a good 2 or 3 glasses of wine a night for no reason other than a reward and that's just no good on a weight loss plan! Genuinely feel a lot better for it too.

It's portion size that's my main problem. I can be quite good in the day but then I'll really look forward to my dinner, load my plate up and then have a chocolate bar with tea after - again it's this reward mentality I need to challenge.

Hello, can I join?

I lost 2 1/2 stone last year but can't seem to shift anymore, and I need to lose about another 2 1/2

I'm just under 13 stone but only 5' 4 so classed as obsese. My first goal would be to get down to being 'only overweight'!

Just wanted to get a post on here - will go back and read the thread properly now!

I must admit wine was a bit of a habit for me and DH. I haven't had any since Friday night but will have a glass or 2 at the weekend. like you though I do feel better for not drinking.

Am being really good at the moment but find tea-time the hardest especially with the kids leftovers

Have to have crisps, biscuits and chocolate in the house for the kids and find them hard to resist but so far so good

Coleen Nolan said that she squirts washing up liquid on the kids leftovers straightaway...as soon as they say they're finished....so that she can't eat them even if she wanted to.

Haven't done that yet (as I prefer to eat the leftovers!) But think I might start!

I am replacing my reward glass of wine and choccy with a cup of options which is just as lovely and really nice to sit down and watch the telly with.
Should we have a chart and a weigh in?

ie
sockmonster - weight 11st 10lbs lost -

thanks MaggsS

I lost a lot of weight last year and I do feel healthier and look smaller, although still obviously overweight. I carry it round my middle too. I've got big boobs and belly. I've always had thin arms and legs, which sounds good but actually makes me look quite dumpy and out of proportion.

I did it through calorie counting (online diary) and upping my exercise from virtually nothing to walking for at least 10 minutes every day.

But I eat quite badly - I'm a carboholic, I get tempted too easily and I've no willpower. I need to incorporate more fruit and veg into my diet and STOP WHEN I'M FULL. I do move more than I used to though - and I want to increase that too. I got a wii fit a couple of months ago and enjoy that, plus I'm walking more and going swimming.

I'm going to try and make sure I have 5 a day, drink water and exercise in some form for 30 minutes. Writing down what I eat here will motivate me I think - but I'll start tomorrow (far too embarassing to write down what I've had so far today, just loads of carbs really).

yes that's a good idea because I don't know where else I'm going to get encouragement, not being able to get to weightwatchers or similar

how do we do it?

My other motivation should be tht I had a breast reduction on the nhs last xmas due to the fact that I had lost so much weight and still had massive boobs, now I am oputting all the weight back on, not good.
