Starting this following the discussion on AIBU last night...

Have you slowly let yourself slide into weight gain over several years and are unhappy about it but feel powerless to change?

Are you avoiding going out and seeing people because you don't want them to see how you've let yourself go, or because you can't fit into your clothes? Are you living in (DP's) T shirts and jeans or tracky bottoms?(you can call them yoga pants if it makes you feel better)

Is your family album decidedly lacking in photos of you with your DCs because you camera dodge?

Are you tired all the time and a bit secretly down about it all, but coping on the surface?

If so, then this is the thread for you! All welcome!

We're going to be working on our self esteem issues and create new habits that will take us, one step at a time, to feeling much better physically and mentally. We will be building up to taking more conscious exercise and trying to change our dietary habits that got us in this sorry state to start with.

I think it was Starbear that mentioned trying to do something similar to the FLY threads on Good Housekeeping.

Perhaps we could post each day our plans (whether it be exercise, food, motivation, water intake, giving up something or whatever) and then see how we did each day.

I should really lose 2 stone to be in the middle of the healthy recommended weight for my height and build. Personally I'm low carbing - been trying it on and off for a while, hoping I can stick to it this time.

OK so today I'm going to eat just breakfast lunch and dinner and 1 snack, drink 8 250ml glasses of water, and do 30 mins either walking or on my stationary bike.

Good luck.

can I join?

I need to lose between 2 - 3 stone.

Tomorrow I'm going to see the local gym and hopefully sign up, get myself off diet coke and start eating healthily again. (Then on Sunday it's my son's birthday party...)

Can I join please?

I have lost 3 stone in the last year but have started to gain again over the past month (not a lot, only a few lbs but it's a gain none-the-less) and am terrified of putting it all back on again.
Ideally I would like to lose about a stone to keep myself comfortable/confident.

Today is a new start. I am reaching for a glass of water before food when I feel peckish (I often eat when I'm actually thirsty) and if I do need a snack I will be snacking on fruit/dried fruit/nuts from today.
I will do a brisk walk the long way round to the PO/library/shops on my way to do the school run.

I have followed you over from the other thread and would like to join in too.

I would like to lose an absolute minimum of 3 stone and preferably more.

Hell a couple of pounds in the right direction would be an improvement at the moment!

Exercise is the key for me - I have been sitting on my butt for too long. I am hoping to walk the long way to school to pick up the children. DS2 started school this week and so no excuses any more for taking the shortest route to pick up DS1 - I can go anyway I like. I would like to get a bike too for local journeys rather than intending to walk, finding I don't have the time and then getting in the car.

No particular plans to follow any special diet as what I really want is to make lifestyle changes and eat healthily most of the time. I like the idea of the 80/20 rule - 80% of the time you eat healthily, 20% of the time you have anything you fancy. Cutting out snacks has to be the first step.

I don't know if I can make a difference this time but I will give it a go.

I'm coming over from the original thread as well. I am determined to lose the 4.5 stone I've put on. I have no excuse because I actually lost 2 stone after DS2 was born two years ago and I've put it straight back on.

I eat too much cheese and snack on too much junk. I need to regulate my meals, cut out the sweet things and cut down on the cheese (I'm a veggie so chicken and rice doesn't work for me). I'm going to swim at least two days a week.

I don't know anything about dieting (apart from good old fashioned calaroie counting) so tell me about low carbs

This sounds just what I need!

I'm a stone heavier than when I started dieting back in the spring, and I'm getting so down about it all. I have bang on three stone to lose to be a healthy BMI.
I am a dieting guru, tried everything over the years, but I have an evil voice in my head that somehow forces me to binge eat crap
I cried last week seeing our holiday photos, I look huge in them

Helloooo!!

Can i join in too please?!

I need to lose around 6 or 7 stone ( ) so have a long journey ahead of me, but hey ho.

My problem is lack of exercise. I do nothing other than walk to and from the station 3 times a week when i work. I was intending to exercise when DD has a nap during the day but lately she's only been napping for 30 minutes which is barely enough time for me to get my exercise kit on!

Today i have been drinking quite a bit of water and have been walking up and down the stairs at work rather than take the lift.

I need to incorporate some exercise into my life and have to work out a time when DD is in bed or when DP can care for DD so that i can actually DO something!

OMG this is soooooo good! Just what I need - a bit of group support and motivation to keep me going.

I lost about 4 stone on a well known milkshake diet about two years ago - put it all back on AND MORE. Soooo depressing. Taken me months and months to get my head round what had happened and 'start again'. Stupid stupid milkshake diet, why did I do it?

I've actually just started this thing called Diet Chef - you get your food delivered to your door. Not too expensive. You can add fruit and vegetables, so healthy. 1200 kcals/day. Gonna do at least 30mins walk at least 4 times a week. Also going to read my psychology books - 'eating less - say goodbye to overeating' and 'fat is a feminist issue' (been on bedside table for past year, not got past chapter 2).

Thankyou Columbo, what a great idea. I have also basically cut myself off from old school friends (other friends I don't mind - think i must feel bit competitive with old school people or something).

Hi, I would like to join too please. I came back from holiday feeling bloated and ill and decided to do something about it.

I joined the cal and exercise thread and have so far lost 12lb which I am delighted with. The "easy" weight has gone and now i'm onto the hard slog and I could really do with encouragement to keep me going and a log to keep me on track.

Today I have been swimming (32 lengths). Food has been ok cal wise but a bit limited variety wise. I've been shopping and stocked up on fruit and veg. I'm veggie too and working to vary my protein sources.

I'm just starting to see a difference in my body shape and don't want to slip back.

pickupthismess low carbing definitely works but it is hard if you're a veggie as it is basically protein, fat and veggies. So you could eat cheese and eggs and tofu/TVP plus nuts, cream, oils and low carb veggies & berries but it might get a bit monotonous.

When I'm in the groove with it I do find it easy as it's just a palm sized lump of protein (lump of steak/omlette/chicken/fish) and fill the rest of the plate up with salad/cabbage and drizzle with a generous dash of creamy dressing...but it's not always as easy as just sticking to the menu plan! A lot of the time psychology comes into it...I feel I need a treat or want to change how I'm feeling emotionally. But we all know that, right? ;)

Hello, can I join too please?

Started Weight Watchers(again) last week and definitely need all the help I can get to keep on track.

I need to lose around 5 stone . I'm so with myself to have gained so much weight. I can't believe I weigh more than when pregnant!

Have had a good week so far, but I'm well aware the first couple of weeks are the easiest.

So this weekend I will:

  • drink loads (of water not wine)
  • eat fresh food
  • dust the bike off and try and keep up with my 6yo Ds.

hello all ...

have 3 stone to lose and possibly more

my first target is to lose a stone which sounds more doable than 3

i do yoga once a week which i love but need to increase it

Report
Niecie · 12/09/2008 17:03

OK since others are being so honest, I said I needed to lose a minimum of 3 stone preferably more.

Well preferably more means another 3 on top of that.

Realistically 3 stone would bring back into play a whole great area of my wardrobe which is currently too small.

6 stone would need a whole new wardrobe, full stop!

I keep trying to tell myself I will splurge £££££ if I lose loads and buy some lovely new clothes.

Well I said this morning that the thread had inspired me and I've done a whole day LOL. Didn't reach for the apple and blackcurrant pie staring at me at lunch time(well reached but didn't touch). Went swimming tonight and told kids and DH that we weren't going to pizza express like we sometimes do after swimming (they not too happy because all slim). So with 4+ stone to lose I reckon just another year.........Am feeling v positive

Hello, Jumped from the other thread. Have 2 stones to lose. When are we going to start? Hey, How about also saving money by not spending on food and put towards on new things ('outfit' sounds so naff)
Need to talk about exercise otherwise I fall off the wagon! Sorry people
Another idea do a fly plan and see if we can stick to it? What do you all think? I'm on a bit of a roll but can I keep it up?

Hello! I'm over from the other thread. This is brilliant, having so many of us all in the same boat... But I don't know where to start.

I need to lose exactly 3 stone. It's 1 stone baby weight, then 2 stone I've lost and regained a million times.

I'm so confused though. Have done WW (too slow), Scarsdale (fab! But v hard to motivate self to start again), general healthy-eating-plus-exercise (hopeless, am undisciplined, need to be told what to do).

Any ideas anyone? I'm quite good on actual diets, but with a veggie DH, a fussy-ish DS1 and DS2 just starting solids, I feel faint at the thought of cooking four different meals every night!

Has anyone done Slimming World? Is that easy to shove into lifestyle and encouragingly quick to get results?

I was very good last night too and resisted my usual snacks.
Today we have had a family walk and I have had a healthy breakfast (fruit). We are thinking about having a take-away this evening which is pretty naughty though

I'm in if that's o.k. and want to start now. I need to lose about 2 stones. I left weight watchers earlier this year because I couldn't get motivated and I needed to save money.

Right now, I'm in the midst of a depressive phase, for some reason. I think it's cos I've got a sore throat and some kind of bug, but am weepy and pathetic (very unlike my normal self...not one for self pity, but LORDY I feel sorry for myself this morning!).

I read the earlier post and thought, this is it...time to stop making excuses and time to start the diet/exercise regime.

This, whilst in the middle of eating a crunchie and hulahoops

Am just off to get some paracetamol, then I'm off to Tescos to sort out diety shop....

Will be more positive in future posts, but please...count me in

Ps. Bianca...if you're on a low fat diet, they say chinese can be good if you avoid the fried stuff, duck, pancakes, etc...noodles are good and low, so veggie chow mein isn't so bad. If you go with indian, just avoid the creamy sauces and the naan breads.. It does you good to have a treat every now and again. Makes you realise you're not punishing yourself with the diet...just being sensible.
