If so, how much did you lose in how long and what was your 'plan'. Had shoulder op this week so can't do gym etc for about 4-6 weeks, walking seems the only option so need some inspiration please.

I lost half a stone walking my dd to nursery in a term. It's 20 minutes each way and part of it was up a hill. I was pushing a pram. Usually I only walked there and back once a day.

I walk a lot and I really enjoy it. I don't do it to specifically lose weight, but I love to walk because it makes me feel so much healthier and fitter. It helps that I live in a beautiful little town and everything is within walking distance.

It did help me lose weight after having dd2, and also has helped keep my legs toned. We went to Switzerland recently and did some lovely walks in the mountains, and I'm glad I'm fit enough to enjoy them.

I'm now 35 weeks pregnant and I'm walking as much as possible - if I don't, my legs swell up, and feel restless at night.

Good walking shoes are important.

I'm using my pedometer and today with just the school run and a bit of shopping I have taken 9,976 steps and it's only lunchtime!

On holiday I ate LOADS but I reckon I walked 3-4 miles a day.

Really surprised to find I had lost 2lbs in a week - first loss for ages.

Good luck with the walking!

That's really encouraging, am off to Centre Parcs on Friday, but can't swim or bike, was planning on the old 10,000 steps a day thing but reckon could probably double that quite easily.

I lost a load of weight by walking when DS1 was little, I went out for 45 mins every day, I even started a little Avon round so I could make some money while I walked! (and it made me get out of the house even if I couldn't be arsed!)

I also LOVE hiking in the Peak District and as we can't get there very often now with 2 DS's then pounding the streets keeps me trim for when we do get round to it!!!!

Good luck with it all.

Walking is brilliant for weight loss as it doesn't make you hungry like some other exercise, so you won't come home and guzzle!

i did between ds1 and ds2. 25 mins 5 times a week rising to 45 mins. start off slowly, increase to pegging it along, warm down at end. really effective. good thinking time as well.

get hold of book 'walk yourself fit' for additional bonkers-looking lady arm exercises to do on the way

and this pedometer map is hugely useful to find out far you are getting around
