neeeeeeeeeeeeeeed to lose 7-10 lbs this summer

gingernutlover · 29/07/2008 21:14

lost 3 stone last year with cambridge, made the mistake of coming off it before goal and never got there

i maganed to get to 11 stone, 7lbs above target which i thought was ok and i wasnt too bothered about reaching a the healthy weight as my bmi was 26 ish.

However, aweeks of stress at work and tiredness from toddler means i have been comfort eating/over eating again! and i am now 11,10 on my scales.

This really scares me as i dont want to be 12 stone ever again

i know i need to contorl this long term but what can i do short termt o boost my confidence/fit into my summer clohtes

i have done ww points, cabbage soup etc etc and always seem to self sabotage within a week

need a kick up the bum and sensible plan i can stick to, not necessarily counting calories or cutting out certain foods eg bread, altho can see it ay be a good idea to cut out chcolate crisp etc

my ILs use cabbage soup for quick loss, haven't tried it myself but they are both trim.

if you can cope with slow change but permanent, try GI diet. The year I stopped eating wheat altogether I dropped about 11kgs iirc.

should stress you can eat wheat on low-GI, just less bread/fat etc. I quit wheat for other reasons but it had very positive side-effect!

good luck

thankou, i guess cutting out the crap and eating a bit less bread (especially the white we have) and doing some exercise could shift a few lbs before holidays

i am on school hols from work and dd can go to nursery 3 dya s week still as it is paid for so think will use that tiem to go to gym (have to dust off membership card and trainers)

cannot face cabbage soup or anything like this and besides i have several playdates and social things to do in next couple of weeks, so i want to be able to eat normal food

and well done on your weight loss, 11 kgs is great

I may well dig out the gi books i have lurking, although from reading them i seem to remember it lots of fruit veg/pastarice etc and wholegrains and cutting out the crap so hoepfully not too hard

oh, it all came back on, soon as I started eating toast again. looooove toast!

GI is pretty easy, just limiting certain carbs and replacing with others. Plus lots of veg and protein. Not hard. Good luck

keep meaning to do it properly one of these days...

well, decided this morning to go with ww points again, have stuck to it all day and have points left

trying to spend them on sensible things like yoghurt and fruit, but thought it would let me be a bit flexible on days out

GNL, come over to my thread. We have a 7lbs by the end of August challenge. The focus is on eating healthy food and exercise. No brainer, but it will work - and better for your health than eating onl;y cabbage soup (and less farty )

Hi gingernut - Would you like a WW buddy. I am in a similar position to you. A week before Easter I managed to get to goal after years of yoyo dieting. I felt so fantastic that I had finally got there (losing 2 stone), but since then it has gone horribly wrong - I cannot seem to maintain the weight and it is steadily creeping back on. Like you I now have about 10lbs to lose to get back to goal. I would like to achieve this before the last week in August when I am away on holiday (don't know if this is possible) but we can work towards it together. What do you think??

Hi gingernut - I follow the points plan. Have just worked up enough courage to walk through the doors of my local WW meeting. It was awful, talk about shameful. Everyone knowing that you had reached goal and querying why I was joining the queue to pay. That hopefully alone is enough to help me to pull myself together. It was also worse than I thought, I am 10lbs outside of my goal weight (I have put this on since Easter ) although on a cheery note if I can lose 5lbs relatively quickly at least I can weigh in again for free. You sound like you've done really well today, would love the recipe for your burgers (burger and chips for 8pts sounds good to me). So am starting today, and will weigh in again next Thursday and let you know how I have got on. What day is your weigh in??

hi well done for going to the meeting

i started yesterday and was 11,10 so happy to wiegh in on thursdays if that helps (will give me an 8 day week to kick start)

the burgers were as follows

small pack of extra lean mince
1 onion
herbs - pinch
lea and perrins - good shake
good shake of salt and pepper

all wizzed up in food processor and shaped into burgers, girlled for 10-15 mins.

this made 5 small burgers, enough for me, dh and dd to share. The chips were siansburys BGTY range and salad is free of course, so eating loads of this at the moment

another time i think i woould add quite a lot of black pepper

oh and ketchup and low fat salad cream too, made it lovely.

have just had tiny portion of apple and balckberry crumble, no idea of points but had 6 left over so think it will be ok

Right here goes - Please do not judge me on my weight. Everybody I speak to says 'you don't need to lose weight, but I firmly believe it is how you feel. So.. I weighed in this evening at 10st 3lbs and my goal weight at WW is 9st 7lbs. I am only 5ft 2 tall and carry the majority of my weight on my thighs. Would love to lose inches of them. Problem with me is I tend to binge eat after dieting for a few days, but after meeting tonight I have decided I can get back to goal (positive thoughts). Thanks for recipe. Will weigh in on Thursday but in the meantime keep posting, as I would appreciate your support and hope I can offer the same.

hi you sounds like me re the dieting binging cycle

i am 5,4 so a bit taller and would love to be your wieght, but for the moment, focussing on the 11 stone mark which would bring my bmi back down to around 26 - so reasonable

my mum is the same height as me and weigh about 9 stone - we are all different and you have to do what makes you happy, I on the other hand have a very curvy figure, with at least a stone on my chest! so am never going to be 9 stone, took me a long time to accept that

Fimbles5 · 01/08/2008 08:43

Well I'll swap the chest for my thighs - I think I missed out somewhere in that department. Am I right in saying our first step therefore is to both lose 10lbs?? If so, at least we can work towards this goal together. I know what you mean about the family thing - I have two sisters, both of whom are tall and slim (and trendy!), both take after my Dad, me on the other hand short and tubby

okay well I have buggereds it up royally i think

friday night i ended up going to comfort a friend who had an argument with her dp and we went out for a bite to eat, it was harvester and i ordered what i thought would be okay but it ended up having a buttery sauce on it which i think took me over my points for that day, then yesterday i got home late and dh had ordered pizza for our dinner

today is a party at my mums, am going to try to stick to salad and new potatoes with a little meat but she makes the yummiest puds - will maybe just have a bite, then back on tomorrow.

On the positive side, i have been angelic the rest of these days, its just the one meal that has gone wrong, no silly snacks etc.

I have also bought a stepper thing from argos as i had vouchers for my birthday a few weeks back. I plan on starting with 10 mins in front of the tv moving to more when i get used to it.

how are you getting on?

No gingernut you have not buggered it all up, you have just slipped and now you need to pick yourself up. DO NOT write the whole week off, just draw a line under the weekend and start afresh tomorrow. I have been where you are so many times and as a result spiralled out of control with my bingeing, but you are stronger than me! You can do it - salad and new potatoes this afternoon, and a small pudding if you feel like it (as a treat) then tomorrow replace that 'halo' and hop on that stepper. I bet you will find things not as bad as you think by the end of the week. I am here to support if you need. X

cheers for that fimbles, i had a modest amount toeat at mums and am now still full.

managed a full 5 mins on the stepper, its hard work that! has got arm bits too that you have to stretch on, could feel my heart going so am guessing i was trying hard enough

i am going back to the drawing board tomorrow, with 20 points a day, i cant face not having a few to make up for the weekend - just like i never seeme to be able to save any up either, i am starving if i dont eat them all most days, and hungry even if i do eat them all

think i am pms time anyway which wont be helping

anyway, hoep your weekend is going better than mine has, roll on thursday for that weigh in!

I am the same - for me it is easier just to start a fresh the next day, rather than worrying about making points up. Anyway the stepping must be worth bonus points, so you may be pleasantly surprised on Thursday. Back on track tomorrow, let me know how you get on.

gingernutlover · 03/08/2008 20:26

thanks for that, popped back on to record for evidence that i have just done 10 minutes on the stepper

added to the 5 that i managed earlier, makes 15 mins, really out of breath. I also did 15 sit ups.

I AM GOING TO DO THIS
