Can some one please tell me the formula for changing miles into steps, so far today I have done 2.94 miles so need to know how many steps??

Thankyou

I found that 1 mile is approx 3,000 steps. Not sure what that is in kilometres though

Mine has been misbehaving so based on a calculation of my "check" routine and the pedometer results as recorded, I'd say I did about 27,000 this week. Am going to keep a close eye on it. Am aiming for butterfly-like excellence so still have a way to go I think Well done ladies

Hi - forgot to email you but I did
47,265

My ped has a button on it to change it to distance - does yours not do that? Sorry - no good at converting km to miles!

I forgot to wear it yesterday but my total from Mon to Sat was 118293.
My walk to school and back is about 2 miles and I record between 4500 and 4600 steps. I may record it each time this week to see how it compares (that's the scientist in me!).
Despite the walking and what I thought was fairly healthy eating I managed to put on 2 pounds this week (it's all muscle I tell myself ).
Let's hope the crisp clear days continue so that we all have a little bit of Spring in our steps this week. Good luck.

Wow! Well done everyone. I seem to be slipping rather than improving but hopefully my results for next week will be better.

I didn't 17,000 last week - but that was only 3 days worth as I only got the pedometer midweek LOL.

Yesterday was a BAD day, today is going quite well - but a LONG way off 70,000!!!

Total today 7.35 miles so I calculate that as 21000 steps plus some..does that sound right?

Mothernature - don't know if others will agree with me, but that step/distance ratio sounds high. My stride is set at 2.4. I walked 14,217 steps today which equates to 6.5 miles according to the way I've set my pedometer.

But, I see that MadameButterfly estimates that one mile equals 3,000 steps.......so I'm not really sure what's right. Whatever is correct, it's fair to say that you had a very good day!

My stride is set at 2.5 - yes I do have longish legs..and I do know I walk alot, just thought I would join in this week to see how much I actually do walk in total. thanks.

Earlybird - from the way yours is set 1 mile would be 14217/6.5. My school run is ~2 miles and yesterday took 4218 steps. On yours this would have been (14217/6.5)x2=4374 steps so I think ours are fairly similar. Thought mine was too sensitive but I suppose I do actually walk a fair bit.

I'm finding it difficult to get out with the kids because it is so cold which makes it hard to get a decent total. DD (8 months) refuses to wear a snow-suit and DS winges about cold hands but won't wear his gloves (think he's left them at nursery anyway). Put DD trousers, tights and socks on and put up with DS's moaning and took them to the park on Sunday but can't stay out too long and DD cried/moaned all the way home.

Well I'm going to have another poor week, I'm afraid. Was laid a bit low last week, but this week is even worse. Today is the first day I've left the house since Friday, and even then I was really struggling (have had a fluey thing, went to docs today and have bronchitis as well. Feeling a lot better but not walking much obviously)
Everyone else seems to be doing really well!

Posey - I know the feeling - thank goodness DH is working from home at the moment - I only got up at 11.50am this morning - as was feeling so cr*p. The 'good' thing is that I HAVE to take DS to nursery and also had to buy things at the shops - so forced to walk..........don't think it's done my flu any good - never mind.......we'll come top of the group next week

Posey · 26/01/2005 19:22

Absolutely Gwenick! Its really rubbish this though, I hope not too many people get it. My poor ds has it too, and dh actually had to take a day off work to look after us.

I had a big walking day on Monday, and my feet/legs have been sore ever since. Suspect it's because I wore low heeled leather soled boots rather than my more comfortable flat shoes with cushioned/padded soles. Just curious - what sort of shoes do you wear when you're walking significant distances? I find trainers the most comfortable, but sometimes I want to look a bit more stylish and not so student-y. What do the rest of you do?

sorry to butt in but where can i can one of these from?, and how much are they?

Are you asking where to buy a pedometer? If so, I got mine at a camping/outdoors shop for about 12 pounds. You can get them cheaper other places, but they often break/malfunction more quickly.

Report
Bozza · 26/01/2005 21:31

Trainers definitely comfortable at this time of year. Also got some flat knee length boots that are not bad but suede so not practical for off-road.

Evesmama - no problem. Hope you find a good pedometer and join us with the walking!

Any more shoe suggestions from anyone?

Earlybird - dh got me some really good trainers for Christmas. Went to a "proper" shop to get fitted for them as I'm doing the moonwalk in June and need some good footwear. They're Asics ones and were about £60 I think. Before my flu I'd started walking them in and after my "big" walk my feet felt nothing (not like my thighs and bum which were so stiff - that'll teach me to warm up/down properly)

Hi, I just bought a pedometer yesterday not knowing there's a special pedometer club here. What a great idea. Can I join in? I bought mine from Woolworths for £15 and it's supposed to skip 'fake steps' but it actually seems like it's adding extra steps. Today I recorded 15239 steps / 9.15 kilometers / 703 calories. I know I did walk a fair bit but it still seems like it's too much. I'll have to do some sort of testing with a set distance a few times before I trust the little talking machine. Can't wait to see what sort of distances people walk.
