Pedometer Club 2005 - week 2

MadameButterfly · 17/01/2005 10:13

Hi everyone.

I have received 3 emails so far, so here are the results I have.

Madame Butterfly 64690
Coppertop 50697
Posey 40416
Bozza 27886

Well done everyone, keep up the good work.

I tend to wear my pedometer from the minute I get dressed until I get ready for bed, so absolutely everything gets counted, even just around the house.

WHERE DIO YOU GET PEDOMETERS FROM?

I got mine from boots, but you can buy them in quite a few shops. I have seen them for sale in WH Smiths

Hi Madame Butterfly, can I join this club as of this week? I am aiming for a minimum of 10,000 per day.
Fio, I got my pedometer from the British Heart Foundation's Lifestyle Shop. They were a bit disorganised about sending it out next day delivery, but it's a good one and seems accurate. Silva make, £9.95.

Well done, MB!

I had a really mixed week. I managed to get more than 10,000 steps on a couple of days but then had a lazy-b*gger day where I did less than 1,000. I'm still pleased though because usually I can't seem to get past about 6 or 7,000.

My tally for Mon-Fri last week is 114343. I have mentioned that I think my pedometer (despite being an expensive one) reads "high". I have checked it by measuring a certain distance and counting the steps and it seems reasonably accurate but I think it is sensitive to other movement.

I do walk my children to and from school each day which is about 4 miles and I generally fit in a walk with DS too.

I may get another one when I have some spare cash.

MadameButterfly - I've had my pedometer in place since Saturday morning, so will email you Friday night with results. Feels good to be walking again!

Glad my e-mail got through. I only started on Monday so my total was for 5 days and I think I've already passed it this week. My total is for all day as well like MadameButterfly.

I got my pedometer from the O2 shop when they were giving them out in the summer.

actually put mine on today for the first time in ages and clocked up.....3300 - wow It's my usual "not going out of the house except to the corner shop" total

Where did you all buy your pedometers?? I live in quite a small town - average number of shops - and am planning a trip to town tomorrow - and would like to get on. I know Argos does one - is that any good - or should I try one of the sports shops??

Any to avoid???

Tommy · 18/01/2005 09:01

I got mine in Oswald Bailey or Millets - somewhere like that - £9.99

Try a camping/outdoors shop.

I found the clip on the Argos one broke very easily, Boots do a couple of pedometers, boths of which are good

I have used several and the weighwatchers one is my favourite.Accurate and robust and you can't reset it accidentally

Tommy · 18/01/2005 22:11

Jasper - can the WW one tell you how many points you've walked off? Or is that asking too much?!

Report
Gwenick · 18/01/2005 22:41

Thanks everyone - got one in the local sports shop today - £8. Seems to count 'steps' quite well - but also seems a bit sensitive to other moment. Counted the steps to collect DS from nursery and I counted 426 steps, the pedometer said 436 - and I made no other movements.

When I got home I hardly 'walked' anywhere but it still kept clocking a few on that I hadn't done - oh well I guess 'something' is better than 'nothing' and I'll just 'deduct' some from my total each day.

jasper · 18/01/2005 23:25

Yes Tommy it does but I was shocked how many steps I had to take before I began to earn bonus points. If I walked to the village and back (about 8 miles) it would register four bonus points and it did not start to clock up points till I had walked about 3 or 4 miles.

The pedometer also has a sensitivity adjustment

Earlybird · 18/01/2005 23:26

Good luck Gwenick! I'm impressed that you had the concentration to count 426 steps without getting distracted and losing your place!

Report
Gwenick · 19/01/2005 00:13

early - I was pushing DS2 in his pushchair so could use my fingers on the handles for major numbers without being really obvious LOL.

Report
Tommy · 19/01/2005 12:11

so jasper - a couple of trips to the village just for one Mars Bar then?

Yes exactly Tommy - and I don't have three hours to spare either

Ok, I've been slack, but have two sick boys here and just can't get out! (I've been sick, too.)

I promise when life returns to normal I'll walk more.

Report
Gwenick · 19/01/2005 18:55

I think my pedometer reads 'high' - but even so it's been an appalling day - AND I had to drop DS1 at nursery and then go to Morrison!! - Eek I think I'll have to walk round the block (it's a large block) a few times as the number currently showing is quite embarrasing!)
