I can see there are lots of slimming world fans on here. Can anyone tell me how it actually works?
I have tried to WW before, with some success, but am TTC at the moment so dont want anything too strict, and have heard you cant do weight watchers whilst pg.

So how do you lose weight if you can eat unlimted amounts of foods.? Do the protein and carbohydrate days alternate or can you do them any way you choose.
How easy is it to find foods to eat on the protein days? I have done the Aitken diet before and found it difficult finding food for lunch and breakfast , that wasnt bread or pasta based.

You can choose between green and red days, and there are various "Healthy Extras" (you can have 3 or 4 each day) which ensure that the protein days aren't restrictive at all. As far as I can see the main "weight-loss" bit is that SW is essentially low fat, but the combining aspect seems to work too. As an example day (I'm having a red (ie protein day))

Breakfast: Mini shredded wheat (Healthy Extra) and milk (Healthy Extra)
Lunch: Roast chicken (free food), small portion of Roast potatoes (8 syns), loads of veg (free), gravy (3-4 syns)
Supper: sardines (free) on wholemeal toast (Healthy Extra)

Most (if not all) fruit is "free", so you can have plenty of fruit after meals. Any food which isn't free or a Healthy Extra has a "syn" value (a la WW, but calculated differently), and you can have 10-15 syns a day. This gives you enough fat/sweet stuff to make life bearable (hence my roasties - I didn't bother dry roasting which would have been free, and gravy).

there's also 2 new plans for good measure which kind of combine the best of both in the same day

Haven't seen those. Just wanted to correct my last post - dry roast potatoes wouldn't have been free as I'm on a red day, but I think that boiled new potatoes or a small jacket potato would have been... (before I give you the impressions that everything is unlimited!).

What do the new plans look like?

I'm having a red day today too

breakfast .. toast (healthy extra) with marmite and cottage cheese (both free) and cup of coffee (milk from healthy extra)

lunch ... roast chicken (as much as I wanted), beans, carrots, salad, gherkins all free

snacks .. toast and cottage cheese (healthy extra), apples, muller light, 2 biscuits (counted from syns), lots of teas and coffees (with milk from healthy extra), beef (from leftover roast), 2 Rich Tea biscuits (counting 4 out of 15 syns for today)

haven't decided on dinner yet

see... I eat loads .. I haven't finished yet

Twiglett · 02/01/2005 18:54

haven't quite got my head round them yet and TBH I'm quite happy with green and red days so far

info on days here

What about Alcohol? I like the occassional after work drink on a Friday. (Of course this too will be abandoned when finally am pg), but until then... can it be included?
