I've decided i need to lose a half stone or possibly 9lbs if i am determined enough!

I don't see the point in joining a class for a relatively small amount so thought counting calories would work?

I could be very wrong of course!
Closer diets.com amd tescodiets.com both reckoned 1600 or 1800 calories per day. But i love my wine so need to find out if i can have it or save for it!!

Anyone help me?

150ml glass = 100 cals. Will let you do the maths as my brain isn't working today.

The diet I do is calorie-counting, and also eating things with less than 5% fat - apart from one treat a day of 100 cals.

You could try weightwatchers wine and/or have it as a spritzer with diet lemonade or soda water.

There are about 600 calories in a bottle of wine, give or take.

The problem is that it takes no energy to digest wine, compared to food with the equivalent calorific value, so you can't just match one up against the other. You have to drink a bit less wine.

OK, science teacher that's what i didn't want to hear!
(but what i thought anyway)
Weightwatchers wine doesn't look very appealing to me i'm afraid, would rather do without IYKWIM slinky!

Right so 150ml is quite a small glass and 600 cals for a bottle is WAY too much to waste!

Thanks ladies, i obviously maybe just need to cut out the wine and not diet and i'll lose weight anyway!! ha ha!

Appreciate the info though, it will make me think again when i start on monday!
Cheers to a happy weight loss for us all!

My attitude, and I say this as a Weightwatcher, is to drink whatever wine you like within a healthy range. I would not condone drinking a whole bottle, as this is not healthy (althout I do regularly drink this, just wish I didn't). If you want to have a couple of large glasses, then fine.

I've been doing WW since mid August and have lost almost two stone - and that's with drinking well over 14 units a week. I think I've been eating pretty well too .

Yes mrspitt, ww wine leaves a lot to be desired! I like desert wine myself, so whilst weight watching, i pop a sweetner in it! The things we do! Good luck

637 calories in a bottle of wine according to this link:

www.fitandtrim.co.uk/calories_bottle_of_wine.html

You'd better enjoy it - that's nearly half a day's calories!

I've just joined this site as I wanted to know how many calories in this glass of wine im having now! I have tried for so many years, (since I was 19 and could eat what I wanted) to loose weight. I have tried ALL the diets known to man. Then suddenly a few months ago I had a wake up call and decided to get healthy. I have lost almost a stone in 6 weeks and feel great. I did NOT diet as such only halved my carbs and only had wine maybe twice a week in moderation. I started using the local gym twice a week (for a solid hour and a half) and swim twice a week and walk now to the shops instead of taking the car. What a difference! The other thing I did was cut out wheat, and from someone who has suffered from cramps and bloating for years, this has worked wonders.
Try the above it may work for you too!

I drink dry white wine and as a rule of thumb allocate 2/3s of the mls in calories - so about 170 cal for a 250ml glass, or 120 cal for a 175ml glass. It's a bit of a 'quick and dirty' calculation but I tend to overcompensate with being very good the next day - so I think it evens out in the end.

I use Myfitness pal as an app on my phone - you can scan pretty much everything. It'll tell you the calories and its easy to log how much you're actually having rather than guess work. Its surprising how many calories you actually do have in a day...
You do need to look at your measures as well. If you pour yourself a small glass thinking its about a pub measure of 125ml you'll actually think "that is waaay too small" and slosh in a little extra nudging it up to 150-175ml (well I do and I'm pretty sure I'm not alone) Its about 150 -120cal for a 175ml glass depending on the variety of wine.
