Exercise Accountability - anyone want to be exercise buddies?

Over this year I have really lost condition and I'd like to start doing some daily exercise to make up for the fact that I'm at home all the time now. Anyone want to join me for some daily accountability?
My plan is to do at least 20 minutes of YouTube yoga each day and increase the amount I'm walking by doing long walks on my days off.

Hiya I have so much weight to lose. Ive fallen off the wagon for too long now. I wouldn't mind being your exercise buddy.
Have you started doing your exercises?

Ooh, me too! I need to increase my steps, and add 30mins Saturday and Sunday.
I do an hour tai chi every week day.

Embarrassingly, I don't necessarily do 2,500 every day. So that's my first goal. To make sure that I do that every day, and the 30 mins at the weekend. After that 3,000 and so on.

I also need to add some strength stuff in. Squats and stuff, but not yet, I need to go carefully.

How are you finding the yoga @Igglepigglesgrubbyblanket? I did the kids' one with the DC whilst we were home schooling, but that's as far as I've got!

I've started dog walking for a neighbour which has increased my step count. Made it a bit fun than trotting out on my own! Have you added any @picklemewalnuts?

Hello! I've managed to increase my step count but hardly done any yoga. Now I have to post about it I'll make sure I do some today!!
Good idea to join in with dog walking @ClaraTheImpossibleGirl

Gosh I forgot all about this! Let me look it up!

Report
picklemewalnuts · 23/11/2020 15:46

Right!
I've been trying harder on the 250 steps per hour thing- trying to make sure I don't have too many sedentary hours. I'm going to come back next week and say that I did 5 every day.

My number of steps hasn't gone up hugely- though some days have. I've regularly done two days a week with over 5000 steps. I want to keep that up, and make sure that I do 2500 every single day.

So three targets really!
Maintaining the two 5000+ days.
Reaching 2500 every day.
Getting 5 active hours (250+) every day.

Tai chi doesn't register as an active hour, as you move so slowly. It's more about strength. So it isn't counting even though I do it 5x a week!

Looking forward to hearing about the yoga, iglgle!

Do you have a Fitbit @picklemewalnuts? I used to, but after three broke I changed to a cheaper fitness tracker - which is fine (and actually much more reliable!) but it doesn't do the active hours in the same way. And I have no friends on it to challenge Sad

Hope you enjoy the yoga @Igglepigglesgrubbyblanket!

It's my first Fitbit. I had a cheap one, but it didn't have as many functions and the strap broke quite quickly. I'll see how it goes.

How are you doing @picklemewalnuts?
I've done 3 short walks and have good intentions about yoga later

Well, I've only done 3 active hours today despite being proper busy!
And I've not got to 2,500 so I'll get the trampette out now!

Evening, can I buddy up please?

I had joined up to a free fitness site a few months ago and although I'm seeing/feeling changes I've lost my mojo!

I'm not fit or into exercise by any means but I felt so much better in myself when I was doing a video every day so I'm hoping you lot could spur me on 😁

Go for it, Penguin! I do tai chi by zoom every weekday. It's great to have people waiting for me. Keeps me going!

Then using my Fitbit to gently increase my daily totals.

I do wii fit on Saturdays- new family effort. It's worth roping other people in to keep you going.

Hi @PenguinErector! The more the merrier 😁 are you aiming to do a video every day?
I've just managed to do a yoga video, only 16 minutes but it was a core work out which I find hard so I feel pleased with myself.
3 hours is still something @pickle. What's a trampette?

You might enjoy the YogaWithAdriene 30 day yoga journey - don't know what the new one will be but should start with an intro video on 1 Jan and daily videos following from there.

Have you considered Couch25k? I did it in June (there's an app with guided walk/run sessions to listen to) and I have gone from "no, I can't run, it hurts my legs" to someone who loves going for runs and ran 10 miles a week or so ago!

Report
ClaraTheImpossibleGirl · 23/11/2020 21:31

@UnaOfStormhold I got to week 7 of C25K but then had to stop for a bit as I hurt my knee. Now I seem to be forever stuck around week 3, I can only go twice a week and really need to run more to move on.

Which site did you use @PenguinErector? You've reminded me that I should dig out my Jillian Michaels DVD; the Shred is very effective but oh, the pain Sad

@Igglepigglesgrubbyblanket I think I would like to have a ginning face Gin Grin

picklemewalnuts · 23/11/2020 21:54

I had a go at C25K, but I overdid it and had to slow down. I might take it up again- that's an idea. Do you recommend one in particular that's got decent music?

The trampette @Igglepigglesgrubbyblanket is a mini trampoline. I find I can bounce on there without hurting my feet! So tonight I did 4 ish mins at a time, maybe 4 times. That's about a thousand steps, just watching tv. I really need to do it more often!

Report
ClaraTheImpossibleGirl · 23/11/2020 22:19

I just have the NHS one @picklemewalnuts (which you can fit round your own music) but I've heard there's a zombie themed one too, could be fun!

I wish we could have some exercise equipment at home but we have zero space for it Sad

Can I join you please? I did so well in lockdown #1, and after having (I think) the virus at the beginning I actually got fitter than I had been in years. I have ME/fibromyalgia and have been quite weak for a long time.

I then lost that fitness again when I came off my ADHD meds and overdid it at the gym/pool when it was open. I was hoping to get back to gentle but regular home exercise in lockdown #2 but I’m struggling so much with motivation and energy. So it would be nice to have some buddies.

It won’t be a lot of exercise I’m doing though, literally just a few minutes here and there as that’s what worked well before, but I need to do it more consistently and try and drag my tired and somewhat depressed self out in the fresh air more!

I'm with you on the little and often @SingToTheSky
Today I'll do a few walks and aim for a short yoga video as well. It's a work day for me and my dds school has shut for covid reasons so it's harder to fit in than normal.

Right, exercise buds! i missed Tai Chi this morning because I did t sleep and I have a lot on.

I've done this instead. Just took a few minutes to almost learn! Can stick it on and have a go at intervals through the day! It will keep my step count up, that's for sure!

Thank you everyone, just need to be accountable really. I was keeping on track with a Facebook group but I've come off FB as it was spinning my anxiety and generally just a waste of time recently!

I have a step counter (cheap Fitbit equivalent) so trying to get my 10k steps in and do an exercise video of some form everyday whether it's 10 or 30 minutes!

@ClaraTheImpossibleGirl I signed up to Team Body Project. I found them on YouTube during lockdown and really like their easy going style, it's all about movement and making the most of your ability rather than focussing on burning calories so I don't find it so intimidating.

There are lots of free workouts alongside the subscription service (sorry, I sound like an advert 😳).

Anyway - today I've done 11083 steps and a 25 minute beginners cardio workout.
