Craving sugar and awful energy slump after eating

I have about 1.5 - 2 stone to loose. I'm an absolute sugar monster, but am making progress using MFP, sticking to healthy eating and walking 10-15k steps a day.

I'm struggling with overpowering cravings for sweet food immediately after eating lunch and my evening meal. It's not actual hunger, as I've just eaten. It feels like a massive plummet in energy and I crave something 'bad' to lift me out of it.

So far I've mostly managed to resist the craving, but I know my willpower will only take me so far. I'd like to understand why, when I've just eaten something delicious and healthy my body starts screaming for dessert or something sweet.

Fruity ice lolly - satisfies the sweet cravings and low in calories.

You are not eating enough protein. If your lunch is mostly protein and v. low carb you can have some greek yogurt with honey as a pick me up when you slump. Lift your protein at lunch and the slump will go in a week or two.
Why your body does this is because you have dropped your blood sugar and it wants to replace it and is used to the quick yo yo effect of fast sugar.

@Jakey056 wow thank you. My lunch could generally do with being higher in protein I think. Although today I had steak, mushrooms and rocket so actually high in protein and a bit of a treat. I still had that awful slump and craving afterwards though, it's like my whole being wants me to eat sugar to get some energy back.

As you say, I've probably got far too used to getting energy via a quick sugar hit and hopefully, in time, it will get easier.

This is all quite new to me. I need to try to understand the science of this stuff!

You are welcome. I am not keto fully but I use the keto principles to underpin how I eat. I just lost 3kg really easily by reducing carbs and fruit. It took a few weeks for the slump/ cravings to go but they did.
Scrambled eggs, tinned mackerel, lean beef etc are all good. Now I eat mainly protein with carbs in the evening. Try it for a few weeks and see.
I used Ivor Cummins (Amazon) book as a great guide.
Good Luck. I hate the slumps!

You could also use dark chocolate, tiny pieces just to give you that life as you wean off the sugar.
