Help me understand my new scales please!

Ok I feel a bit stupid asking this but I’ve just got a new set of bathroom scales and am weighing myself in stone and pounds.

My old scales would give me fractions of a pound, eg. 10.4 1/2 (ten stone, four and a half pounds).

However, my new scales give me decimals, eg. 10.4.8 (ten stone, four pounds and .8)
What is the point 8 please?
Is it ounces? How many ounces in 1 pound?
Thanks!

My scales do that too.

There are 16 ounces in a pound. The point 8 would be point 8 of a pound, just over 3/4 of a pound.

Not sure that helps!

1lb is 16oz

Multiply 16 by 0.8 and you get the number of ounces.

16 x 0.8 = 12.8

10st 4lb 12.8oz

So, rounding up, it's nearly 10st 5lb

Yep, the 10 is stones, the 4 is pounds & the 8 is 0.8 of a whole pound, 8/10 parts meaning slightly nearer to the next pound up.

Thanks all.
I thought that seeing as 8 is half of 16, it would represent half a pound.
But obviously not!

I hate scales Angry

have you considered changing to weight in KG? You will still need to convert it back to stones (if you choose to) but might be less annoying/easier to track?

What the fuck. I didn't know this, thanks for asking op, although I'm annoyed to discover this about my scales too!
