Exercise stalls weightloss?(10 Posts)
I'm in the overweight category and desperate to get to a healthy BMI asap - just in case. I started on 1st March.
I lost 10lbs in the first 4 weeks, then I took up exercising, and since then i've lost and regained the same pound over and over. Measurements have not noticeably changed in that period either. Exercise also increases my appetite, so loosing weight just feels so much harder.
I stopped exercising on Monday, and my weight is coming down again (1.5 lbs off this morning).
I'm still 10lbs away from a 'healthy' BMI. I'm just going to stop exercising until I get into the healthy weight band and then pick it up again.
Anyone else got a weird body like this?
I think going over the top with exercise is unnecessary n like you say, o my makes you need to refuel more.
Put it this way, I lost 15lbs in 3 month (dropped to 8 stone) on practically no exercise.
A year or so before that diet, I took up walking every day for 40min to 1 and a half hours. After a few week I felt much fitter. But over the whole 6monthish or so I did it, my weight didn't change.
I say exercise is for health, not weight loss.
Do a bit of walking and light exercise or those quick HIT things (exercise in 30 second bursts) maybe. But it's your diet you should focus on.
You've said that exercise is increasing your appetite - have you increased what you are eating or are you not weighing and measuring? 80-90% of weight loss is diet related. Whatever you are doing do not eat the calorie deficit MFP tells you have from exercise.
Congratulations on your weight loss! Interesting what you said about your walking not making much of a difference. It is easier to just focus on food actually, so i'll do that until i'm 'healthy' then re-evaluate.
Wowfudge - I'm not eating anymore because of the exercise, i'm just very hungry and having to use a lot more willpower to resist. Weighing and measuring every thing I eat. Lockdown has given me the opportunity to eat better and i'm taking it.
Understood. I'd give it a week without the exercise then and see how you get on. It might be worth reducing your calorie intake further as you've lost a good amount of weight already.
Yeah or just take a wee stroll here and there, nothing strenuous. Take a healthy snack. I did notice that when I was more active just in terms of every day life I would lose slightly more that week than seditary weeks. But then that could partly have been because I wasnt wating as much due to being busy too.
I definately need to move about a bit, its hard to sleep otherwise, but i'll lay off formal exercise until i'm a healthy weight.
Now is the perfect time to develop a healthy exercise habit, but it can wait a few weeks for the greater good.
I miss regular life taking up the time between meals in a way that it doesnt now. But equally, this whole thing has given me the kick I needed to get healthy, and the time and space to do it. Also, shopping once a week is so muh better than popping to the shops daily as I was doing.
