hello ladies

I lost 4 stone pleasantly and healthily after DS1 was born using the GI Diet, having struggled with WW (too little food AARGH)

now I've stopped bf DS2, I need to lose the same amount again. but wondered if any one else uses GI diet and can recommend a cookbook. I ate a lot of oatcakes last time, a bit dull, looked at an Anthonny Worral Thompson book and found the recipes a bit odd.

Try the Australian website www.taste.com.au
You can use low Gi as a specific search. I found lots of nice recipes here. I agree with you about the AWT book. I tried the shepards pie with bean mash and took about 2 hours to make!

Ah you've both given me some ideas. Need to lose 2 stones. Time4tea Well done for losing the weight. What book did you use for the GI diet. I've just brought ATW book so haven't tried the receipes yet. Also have the Food Doc. Not sure about it all.

hello Starbear

i really would recommend the GI diet, I got the basic Rick Gallup book which had the principles behind it (wholefoods rather than white rice/bread etc, fruit, lowish fat, plenty of fruit veg, keeping energy up, not starving yourself) and some good tips on emptying cupboards/shopping appropriately etc.... I LOVE my food to a deranged extent and really hate the idea of dieting etc but I felt great on GI and it is pretty universally praised by experts for being healthy, it is the kind of thing people with diabetes are recommended to eat etc by hospitals.

I tried WW (which my GP recommended) but it was horrendous - just not enough energy going in if you are busy caring for a child all day.

good luck - I really hope more people try the GI diet, it seems a shame for hard-working mummies to be on Cambridge Diet etc by the looks of the threads in this section and being hard on themselves. I made good changes to my diet and really was keeping well and slimmer without much effort, it was all very sustainable. we all deserve a break on this stuff, health without being hard on ourselves

Thank you Time4tea. I'll make a bit more effort I'll start on Monday. Maybe this will make me feel better all round. I'll swap receipes that work and are quick on this site and look out for you. Not cooking for 2 hours unless its a slow cooker, what a fab invention.

Time4tea - which book is it - there are loads on Amazon - I need a diet that fits in with the family and this sounds ideal.

TIA

hello the basic book is this one, which i used: The GI Diet: The Easy, Healthy Way to Permanent Weight Loss (Paperback)
by Rick Gallop (Author)

it has good lists for easy shopping of approved items

not sure about the others - am tempted by the family & speedy titles - worth flicking through in a bookshop maybe

good luck t4t
