Cutting out sugar, more exercise

Has anyone managed to lose weight, albeit slowly, by cutting out absolutely all processed or added sugar and upping their exercise from occasionally running/swimming/long walks to at least 30 minutes of something a day?

I will still eat fruit & starches (in moderation) nuts, full fat yogi hurt etc but don’t plan on counting calories which I find such a faff and always failed after a week or two.

But I think I can manage to cut out all cakes, biscuits, fruit juices etc as long as I know I have healthy alternatives.

I’m currently 12 and a half stone, happy at 10. Babies are now primary so can’t blame that anymore!

I’ll post back in a week with a progress update but wondered if this has worked for anyone?

I did! Way back in January 2018, I did the blood sugar diet. I cut out all sugar for 6 months, and started from a point of zero exercise doing 10 minutes a day on the treadmill. Within 6 months I had lost around 2.5stone, maybe more, and was running around 40km a week. I've kept up the running, relaxed on the diet, and I have maintained my weightloss (within about 4-5lbs)

It was my second time doing a low carb diet (BSD) and first time I regained quite a lot as I wasn't doing any exercise. My total loss from when I very first started (April 2016) is 3 stone something, I regained a few, then have lost that again this time.

I'd like to lose another 1/2- 3/4 stone and so I continue doing the BSD although I don't count calories now, I just try to keep carbs low and increase fat/protein.

BSD and Fast800 support thread #17 www.mumsnet.com/Talk/fasting_diet/3787860-bsd-and-fast800-support-thread-17

This is our BSD thread if you are interested? You don't have to calorie count, certainly not every day, but the key is to avoid certain carbs entirely. It allows more carbs than a traditional bootcamp style low carb diet.

Yes. I’m doing it now. Lost 4lbs in three weeks so far, but am more toned and feel Stronger.

A couple of very inspiring stories there - thank you!

Well I’ve lost a whole 1.5 pounds Grin without restricting what I’m eating too much other than cutting out sugar. And I had a couple of glasses of wine at the weekend (then a slip up on Sunday where I gave into sugary carb cravings!!)

Time will tell if it’ll work in the long run...

I’ll pop over and have a gander at the BSD thread, thanks thenewwave. Have to say though I’m hoping to do this without cutting out fruit, grains, starches etc.,even if it take me ages to shift the weight!

Well done. That's a good start. Remember to take your measurements every couple of weeks too.

I follow something called JERF - just eat real food. You can have fruit as long as it's not juiced or dried. It also suggests full fat dairy as its more filling and doesn't contain sugar or sugar substitutes that cause cravings. Carbs are fine if not processed and they suggest brown/whole meal/seeded versions if possible.
