Hi all
Just wondered if anyone has any experience of approaching their GP for help with weight loss. I am 46 and my BMI is 49. I am a long term weight loss struggler and just wondered if anyone had approached their GP for help and found it useful?

Not me, but my partner did and was referred to a nutritionist (or dietician? Sorry, can't remember and I'm not sure of the difference) and he had appts with them every few months for a year or so.

He found her really helpful to advise on types of food, portions, exercise, etc. He had a really bad food education as a child and was never properly taught about different kinds of food, nutrition, and calories. They talked about emotional factors and triggers too, I think.

No idea of his BMI, but he was maybe 25 stone. Has lost six stone since.

Sorry, to clarify: he knew the macro things like veg=good and sugar=not so good, but hearing details from an expert and writing out meal plans together really helped him.

He still has problems with a lot of food (e.g. can't tolerate the texture of salad), but he's working at expanding what he eats. He never cooked from scratch before until he met me.

(Just some background so you can see how his situation might or might not compare to yours).

I was offered the NHS dietician option for a BMI of 44. But I decided to follow slimming world. Been at my target weight for over 21 months now.
