Is this enough food?

Am I eating enough?

I have been losing weight quite quickly since I gave birth over 5 months ago (not breastfeeding). I am eating pretty much what I used to eat before having a baby and maintained my weight. Now, the same diet means the weight seems to be dropping off me. I don’t actually want to lose anymore but struggling to understand why this is happening. I am very tall (5’11) and currently weigh 58kg. Pre pregnancy, i probably weighed around 61kg. I haven’t done any exercise post baby but generally walk an hour or so per day, maybe sometimes more. I used to do more than this though never excessive exercise.

Tell me if I am eating an unreasonably small amount and unable to see it!

Breakfast - Greek yog, raspberries, mix of all bran and granola (handfull of each) - have this most days
Lunch - slice of sourdough, avocado on top, salad with feta and greens (other days - soup or scrambled eggs)
Snacks - an apple per day, plus usually a biscuit or slice of cake, 2 coffees with almond milk
Dinner - often pasta, often salmon, veg and rice, try to eat red meat 3 x per week as iron is low. Usually simple meals with a protein, veg, carb.
After dinner - glass of red and dark choc

I am a creature of habit and rarely deviate from this unless we eat out.

I'd ask GP to check your thyroid. Your diet sounds fine to me and the key would you'd normally maintain on that amount of calories and you are losing.

If you're losing weight on the same calories you used to have to maintain then I would book an appointment to see your GP, as suggested, too.

Consider adding some chopped nuts to your breakfast and some seeds to your salad as an easy and healthy way to increase your calories.

Thank you both. I have actually had my thyroid checked and it was fine (I didn’t see results, GP just said it was fine). I wonder if pregnancy had weirdly boosted my metabolism?!

I think you could add more sourdough at lunch plus a few nuts.
